Dirrell is a total *****, when Groves was his mandatory for the WBC he gave an interview on IFL and insisted he would never fight Groves and ended the interview after it was mentioned. All because Froch won a gift decision over his brother, it's not a reason to act like a ***** though. It's a shame, there has been a hell of a lot of wasted time for Smith waiting for this WBC shot and it never came. Past two years have been rendered pointless and his fights have been easy. He could turn out to be a fish out of water at world level, especially with Joe G in his corner.
Callum Smith will show his worth at world level expect him to win world title next without looking his best with rustiness but once this boy gets settled in at world level he will dominate. As I have said previously along with Ramirez I think there best in division. Style side Callum v Groves would be great fight we're both have strengths that would hurt the other but would fancy Callum to win fight down the straight. Great fighter to watch.
Best quote in this thread as the majority in here must be scousers?! Callum smith most overrated fighter matchroom has, I cringe reading about all the hype people give him, will fall short just like the rest of the Joe G camp anyone wanna name a big name he has beaten? A sharp slick counter puncher like degale will school him fact! Degale ramirez groves all school him i would even fancy the likes of chudinov cox why not even eubank to possibly beat him! Time to end the hype, and well said is he a big name? Hey all that sparing with big paul will have him in good stead!
He's a huge puncher and has genuine knockout power. Once he sniffs a finish he's devastating. He's not that slick, his movement isn't the best but he's very big for the weight and those body shots almost snap his opponents in half.
I dont get the massive hype either tbh. Combination of matchroom hype and matching him against guys tailor made for him. The guys hes fighting are either too small or cant punch sometimes both. He is good but not gonna be great imo. I m not sure if his footworks good enough. Got a decent chance of making a name for himself in this tournament tho. Most of them guys are beatable.
I agree with all your points accept one, movement. Callum Smith has better movement than anyone in division. Not head movement (weakness) but his footwork is the best in division. He can get in and out of range so easy with it, it's not flashy or tiring footwork like DeGale or Groves but it is not only uses less energy than the other twos footwork but is more effective through the whole duration of a fight. I find it very reminiscent of my favourite ever boxer Scott Harrison, indeed Callum Smiths style is very similar (even though big weight difference between both fighters).
