    “Pelenchin” Caballero Update

    By Gabriel F. Cordero

Canelo Promotions recently won a WBA purse bid held in Panama City for the right to promote the fight between current featherweight world champion Celestino “Pelenchin” Caballero and his mandatory challenger Nicholas Walters. Canelo Promotions bid $120,000 with plans to hold the fight on December 1 in Kingston, Jamaica. Caballero, however, has stated that he won’t fight for $90,000 (the world champion’s 75% purse bid share) and insists that Mayweather Promotions will line him up for a big fight in the United States, possibly in November. As a result, it seems he would either have to give up the title or be stripped. One important source has indicated that Caballero-Walters is almost certain not to take place and that Walters could be fighting for the vacant belt against the highest WBA ranked contender available.

I don't know if its a bad move or not by Caballero, it will depend on if Mayweather actually gets him a big fight or not.

I've never seen Walters fight so I have no idea how a fight between he and Caballero would play out but Walters is a young guy who can punch and the fight would be in Jamaica(where Walters is from). Thats a risky fight for Caballero.

Caballero is 36 and is near the end, if he loses his next fight that could be it for him as far as big fights go. He should be careful with his next fight.

If MP gets him a bigger payday in his next fight than the gamble may have been worth it. If he sits around without a fight and gets stripped of his belt(about the only marketable thing about him) than he made a mistake.

That loss to Litzau has made Caba self conscious.
(Dude don't want to fight anybody w/a pulse now)

Apparently even Ponce has rejected a possible rematch.
    Danm!! Caba stay's losing.
