Here's an ESPN article about 5 years ago (yes 5 years ago) discussing about Caballero being an avoided one. That time, boxing people already recognized that Caballero deserved a fight against the top dogs. Izzy Vazquez and Rafa Marquez avoided Caballero like plague. Now JuanMa and Gamboa are doing the same.

It's only champs Somsak and Molitor who were brave enough to give Caballero a shot at their respective hometurf in Thailand and Canada then Caballero mauled both to wrest their respective titles.

I think it's just me but Caballero really isn't that good. Other than his height and work rate he is not very good technically and has not really beaten anyone other than Ponce and Molitor which are not exactly A+ level fighters. Caballero needs to stop pricing himself out of fights, get a better promotional team and start fighting the top ranked fighters of the division and become the mandatory challenger and make it imposible for them to "duck" him.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Caballero was the WBA and IBF super bantam champ while JuanMa was the WBO super bantam champ when JuanMa starts ducking him.

Caballero already a champ that's why he's asking other champs to fight champs like him. Tho they're moving up in the featherweight division, Caballero still should be highly ranked in there. In fact Caballero is ranked higher than JuanMa and Gamboa in the Ring Mag P4P list. Caballero is #10 P4P.

i think caballero would knock out all three fighters mentioned here.

marquez is basically finished, and would be stopped by most world class fighters in his division.

gamboa is a good fighter, but i feel caballero's style would be all wrong for him...he's freakishly tall for the weight, has a long reach with a very awkward way of fighting, and has decent power.caballero wouldn't have many problems with gamboa in my opinion and would knock him out within 5-7 rounds.

lopez would be the harder fight out of the three....he's got good defence, has great boxing ability, moves around the ring well, and usually keeps his punches short...but would end up losing in a great fight either by UD or late stoppage.

there is good reason why they don't want to fight him....and that reason is....they would get knocked out.no doubt obout it in my mind.

Caballero should think long term. Take a lowball offer for one fight, knowing that winning it will make you a more attractive opponent for the next ones.

Caballero would get whipped by Gamboa or Lopez. He should be careful what he wishes for.

reg your only inaccuracy is the fact that there was never an offer from juanma lowball or otherwise his manager admitted that recently in an interview.

arum knows something that these juanma and gamboa defenders don't. and that is that his fighters will have hell fighting celestino. otherwise these fights would have been made a long time ago.

as for the comment that he needs to fight his way upp the ladder, how many times does he have to do that,. he fought and won the right to be izzy's mandatory twice. izzy dumped the title. he fought and became unified at 122, juanma ran like a ***** from him. now arum says they priced themselves out, when the 250k offer was made arums own people said they knew it was not enough, then offer rojas 325k. if it looks like a duck walks like a duck and swims like a duck, it damn sure ain't a rabbit

While I hate that **** like this happens in boxing and hope Caba finally gets a shot at a big name fighter I can't help but think he better get the best deal possible as he will likely be stopped by either Gamboa or Lopez. I've been very unimpressed with Caba and thought he was not only unimpressive against Yordan but he was also boring and ordinary. I don't think he makes it the distance with either fighter. Marquez is older and probably represents his best opportunity to win.

I'm also favoring the 34 year old Caballero fighting the 35 year old Rafael Marquez. I believe Caballero is always a tough fight for anyone at 126 and below and that includes JuanMa and Gamboa.

I agree. Caballero doesn't even understand how lucky he is. But the facts are: #1, He doesn't sell. So paying him what he wants is difficult. #2, He is not a P4P. Gamboa and Lopez aren't P4P neither. Gamboa has the ability to be P4P, but he is not there yet. He needs some important fights to get there.

What the hell are you talking about? HE'S P4P NUMBER 10 ON RING MAGAZINE'S LIST. How is paying him going to be difficult? They're prepared to pay Rojas the same amount or more than Caballero would accept. He's clearly being ducked here. istmeno is right, they didn't even bother throwing out a lowball offer for JuanMa to fight Cab. They just outright lied about an offer they never made. Now they're throwing out lowball offers that they know Cab won't accept and claiming he's pricing himself out. How can anyone defend this? Can you imagine if Mayweather told Pacquiao he would have to accept below his minimum in order to fight him and then said he priced himself out when he said no? That's basically what's happening here.

Good call, they did lie about the offer for him to fight JuanMa. This is ridiculous. People on here act like Caballero is some up and comer. He's been in the game for a while now. He's paid his dues. I don't know how any real fan can sit here and say he needs to accept a lowball offer. That makes no sense.

Caballero deserves better. No matter what anybody thinks will happen against Gamboa or JuanMa, we have to actually see it happen in the ring. Caballero has proven he is one of the top fighters in the sport and he deserves a shot at a big name IE: Gamboa, John, Lopez, etc.

I don't understand why you guys are so upset. Arum does this with all of his fighters. ALL!!! I hear some of you talk about who is ducking who. It's the promoters. Arum is very smart and knows how to spread his money out. On the down-side, it ticks us off because of the wait. The danger in doing this is always the upsets, which is possible. I don't think Cab can beat JuanMa or Gamboa imo. He is too hittable against such dangerous punchers.
