I was really impressed with his defense and reflexes in the Yordan fight. I had seen him fight before and I don't remember any of those moves. It's rare to see a fighter that deep into a pro career make such a big adjustment. Blocking hooks with his gloves, slipping and rolling with punches in the pocket...nice work Jeff Mayweather!
Cabalero looked horrendous last night. To me, he reminds me of a slightly faster Margaritoe. He throws looping, wild punches from all angles and was still getting clocked from time to time. He was even out on his feet ready to go in the 12th round. Yordon was just too exhausted to capitalize on the situation. Cabalero will get wrecked the first time he faces a good counterpuncher.
Caballero has already been 'wrecked'... He has been stopped before... He was always hittable... I think the TS was saying that he looked improved. Which is right.. Yea he still was getting hit, but he adjusted and was using a slight shoulder roll. And after getting tagged early with a big left hook, he started to block that shot with his gloves... So, I too seen a better defensive effort from him..
He didn't look bad. But Yordan fight plan to throw an ocassionally overhead punch and hope for a miracle. That is not too difficult to avoid.
I'm sure that wasn't the plan Yordan came in with, but rather Caballero's 100+ punches a round, which caused that... It's like Emmanuel said.. His offense is his deffence..
Also, I watched fight on HBO Latin (it was the only replay that I hadn't already missed) and so I didn't have to usual HBO biased commentating running through my brain. I actually thought it was an impressive performance (although he should have pressed more for a knockout) and a fight with a lot of action. Me and about 5 non-hardcore boxing fans enjoyed the fight quite a bit. Did the commentators say that it was a bad fight?
I thought he looked very good against an average challenger last night and think he was winning the fight that easily he did get caught with a few shots .... in against gamboa we will see a better fighter and he will raise his game accordingly ! ....
No... They were praising Celestino's offense and his combinations, and body work.. They were actually calling for the corner or commission to stop the fight about the 6th round because Yordan was taking a beating...
That's good to hear. Cuz that's what I was thinking. You never know if you are being led by the commentators or if you actually agree with them until you watch HBO Latin!
before this fight at least half the people on here were calling for or at least were giving yordan a very good shot at a victory. they kept saying how great yordan was because he did so well against guerrero. caballero dominates and these same people are saying yordan is a nobody. a horrible fighter. he wins at a minimum of 10 of the 12 rounds and he looked "horrible." i just love the objectivity of fans. i guess if you are a juanma or gamboa fan nothing caballero does will be good. if you are objective you can at least say pelenchin did well. my only criticism of caballero was that i think he could have done more to finish the fight. but he easily controlled the fight and rarely got hit. and when he did get hit, i hear the same people act as if gamboa or juanma would never allow any boxer ever to punch them. when caballero did get hit, he absorbed them well. he was definitely better in this fight and the longer he works with mayweather, the better he will get.
Welcome to ESB.... You will be very hard pressed to find any objective fans on here, I could probably count them on one hand... Caballero looked good last night, and I can't wait to see him face Gamboa or JuanMa.. I think it will be interesting to see, as I like all these guys.. And two of them beat one of my favorite fighters... (look at my avy)
Never thought much of Caballero, really. But last night he really impressed me. That was the most polished and sharp I've ever seen him.
There did look an improvement there but he is still hittable. Yordan barely jabbed and was only throwing hooks so against a more cultured operator Cab will have some problems. Saying that though the hooks were very quick and crisp. Also i think Cab got a bit complacent and thats why he got caught. He was winning by miles so he probably just switched of a bit. He tends to do that at times. Hes always been a fighter that fights to the level of his opponent. In the big fights he usually raises his game. All in all though i think Cab will give anyone a tough fight. Whether he can beat Gamboa or Juan Ma is hard to say but he will certainly put up a good showing. Cab gets far to much **** on this board. He may not be the most technically gifted fighter in boxing but his work rate, good conditioning, decent power and height make him extremely effective.
I'd like to see Caballero against an elite FW, perhaps against Chris John. John's angles and accuracy would be a sharp contrast to Yordan's straight forward approach and wide punches. It would give a better sense of Caballero's defense, I think.
