20-18 Méndez, doing what he do.

Mendoza is willing to walk through fire to apply pressure, but at 40 he doesn't have the legs to get near enough nor the arms to fire anything with a prayer of landing (let alone doing damage)

30-27 Méndez, hurt more by a headbutt (which he accidentally caused himself while tossing a counter left uppercut behind a jab to avoid being sat on the middle rope after Mendoza had been walking him down) than by any punches Mendoza threw.

    Round 4

Méndez piercing the face of the challenger with long jabs and straight lefts, and sometimes veering off to his right, continuing his momentum with a lean in that direction down to his waist, and then cranking in a right hook on Mendoza's side before resuming his wide circling and jab-popping. Mendoza is marching in close, digging when he can with an underhanded right on the body, largely just following Bimbito around. Both men are hurt now by a headbutt, Mendoza perhaps getting the worst of this one. Pawing at his forehead a moment, but shrugs it off and the ref calls time in after just a few seconds. Mendoza comes in pumping a double jab and Méndez exploits his advantage in foot and hand speed, propelling himself back a few inches, remaining in the same overall stance otherwise, wide-based, and zaps Mendoza with a counter right jab that knocks him back a step.

    10-9 Méndez

    40-36 Méndez

    50-45 Méndez

This is now a 50-50 contest...not in terms of the winner, but rather between the champ easily cruising to a 120-108 and it going to a TD long before that on cuts from butts. Really could go either way, there.

Ref having to call for the break a lot. Méndez somewhat off his game, tired from all this waltzing (and virtually running during the interim periods). When he starts headhunting from long range he is actually falling short quite a bit. Mendoza hardly doing anything defensively but still watching punches miss him as he comes forward. Méndez has better luck when he dives in and goes to Mendoza's body, although inevitably this results in them clashing heads again when he resurfaces. Mendoza getting a hole jabbed in his skull but keeps stomping in and waiting, hoping to see Méndez near enough for him to catch with a slashing right hand or some body combos of his own.

    60-54 Méndez

Mendoza has a cut by his right eye, looking as if "Bimbito via shutout technical decision" is nosing out in front...

Mendoza is starting to get his timing down with a right hand up into Méndez's brow, just too few and far between to countermand the scoring mandate of Méndez's constant jabs scored while circling tentatively for three minutes, combined with the odd left hand (or lunging right hook on the body of Mendoza).

    70-63 Méndez

The ref called the ringside physician up on the canvas to have a hard look at Mendoza's eye. They seriously considered halting it, but on we go.

80-72 Méndez ...jabbing, twinkle-toeing, and flurrying away...with occasional scurries inside leading to awkward collisions, just exacerbating Mendoza's cut.

Méndez starts to sit down on some left hand leads and 1-2s, putting a little more bite on them. Mendoza is backed up by a triple left and the ref steps in to embrace Mendoza protectively, although he didn't exactly look to need saving at that moment.

    TKO9!

TD? and UD12 look on in shock as TKO9 mugs like a thug after snatching the victory from them both. :sisi1

Really iffy stoppage, and I like it even less the more replays they show of it - but the outcome here was never in doubt, as far as Bimbito successfully retaining. Only question was how.

Ringside view, if anybody missed this (and would like to remedy that, for some reason :sisi1)
