Me too. But using it as proof he 'destroys' Reem is a bit much too me. Let's face is Brock and Nog are just 'names' at this point, something which Reem's resume is lacking compared to Cain's. The quality of performance from both those guys against Valasquez tells us nothing really. Both need to up their comp and are. Reem is probably weakest on his back and Cain can put him there. Cain is hittable and Reem is a K1 Champ. Their resumes tell us nothing about how that fight would go. Atleast until Werdum/Reem and Cain/JDS
i never dismissed it or based outcomes on either mans record, its just reem biggest downfall could be his stamina, whereas thats velasquez's second best strenght, styles make fights and it goes in velasquez favour, this thread will have a lot more talking points after saturday night, reem is relatively uproven no one can deny it, cain is too but the manner in which he got his W's has to be taken into consideration
Lesnar, Old Nog and Kongo are better wins than anything on Overeem's heavyweight resume. But you're right, neither has the strongest list of victories - ironically JDS probably has the best recent resume in the division. And its not like Velasquez hasn't been dominanting guys either - with the exception of the Kongo fight he's been finishing fights pretty quickly.
Lesnar coming off a lay off and a static Nog with diminished punch resistance isnt enough for me personally. And aside from them two, his resume isnt that much stronger than Reem's. Not dismissing the wins, but as you say, if you are going to rank the HW's in terms of resume then JDS is the strongest I'll make the point one more time, we'll know who, if there is one, is the clear top dog at HW after their up coming bouts. Until then I dont think we can say for sure either way
I tend to agree with this. If Cain vs Reem went more than a round or two, Cain would absolutely murder Reem once he tired. It'd be like a lion attacking the carcass of a dead elephant. But would the fight get to that point? I doubt it. When Reem hits people, even when it doesn't seem to be full force/contact, they react as if they've been hit with a sniper rifle in the spinal column. As highly as I rate Cain, I cannot see him standing up to that level of power when it was evident that Kongo had him rattled.
Lesnar had fought in July. And Nog had just came off his best performance inside the UFC. But Strikeforce GP winner vs UFC heavyweight champion is a must!
Cain ate 3 or 4 knees from Brock in the very early going in that fight, imagine that was Overeem. Cain is VERY hittable Lesnar gassed, that's why Cain beat him. The infamous tumble that Brock took was evidence that his legs were completely gone, **** all to do with the 'punishment'' Cain dished out, there was relatively little until that point. Now add that factor with the shop worn Nog fight, and you are rating Cains wins way too highly to make him a clear no 1 at HW
Oh I agree. I'm not a fan of Velasquez's standup. He leads with his chin too much. Its why I think that if JDS' wrestling is as good as it seemed against Carwin he has a real shot of upsetting Velasquez.
Yes he fought in July, and look how well he did. He got the sub after Carwin blew his wad punching Brock's forearms for two or 3 minutes. And Nog won basically a grappling match with Randy. Doesnt say anything about his punch resistance. Maybe Im wrong but even Randy tagged him with a few right hands
Im not target you personally, Im just saying a general consensus that one guy in number one at this point is imposable for me. We could pick apart every guys performances and they all show strengths and weakness'. We just happen to be discussing Cain's at this point in time
This is my thinking too. I just can't see Cain being able to take and hold down a fresh giant with the constant threat of being killed by a knee. As the fight goes on Cains chances get exponentially better.
