and he's been shot for a while. Like the Jones fan that I used to be, I thought he had a miracle left. I was wrong. Jones is doing what he said he would not do...and that is fight longer than he wanted to. Jones should take a winnable fight, and retire with some dignity. the heat he used to keep on his opoonents died when he fought Tarver in that first fight. His body now has not responded to his mind since he was 34 years old. It has been down hill since the first Tarver fight. Roy gave us his all. He showed us extraordinary skill without the jab by using a thrilling check hook style. The Jones that fought Calzaghe last night was a Jones that I hope to never see again. Cal is a wonderful fighter, but Cal fans, don't act like he beat a prime Roy. Roy has been shot for a long time, and even us hard headed Jones fans didn't want to believe it seeing 24/7. We knew Jones was just about shot, but last night's display is about as bad as it gets for Roy. That loss is just as bad as the ko losses. Roy got outboxed. When he got outboxed by Griffin at times in teh first fight, he was able to change his style...his body wouldn't let him last night. Jones looked smaller than Cal, weaker, and survived on heart alone. Good night Roy, I hope we don't hear another Mel Taylor story. It's time to watch your kids grow up, and it's time to indulge in future endeavors. Thank you Roy Jones Jr. The H.O.F welcomes you!
AND, Jones was not beaten by a prime calzaghe. personally i think if both fighters met in there prime, Calzaghe wud have still won
Calzaghe DID beat a prime Jones. A clearly in-form RJ. Hopkins too, so stfu n00b. He's now an ATG & clearly ranks above Roid Jones & Borenard Popkins.
It's no wonder you have Sonny Liston in your avatar. You are a weirdo and a creep posting this response.
What's funny is Calzaghe is the one past his prime, yet he beat a Roid Jones who was as good as ever.
I believe Cal gives prime Roy a fight also. I don't know about Cal beating Jones though. I knew a long time ago Cal could fight. Cal takes his chances, and is willing to find out what you have, and then make it your weakness. Cal is a special fighter, but he beat a shot Roy.
But he's not shot. Past his prime Calzaghe? Certainly. RJJ is shot as all hell. Consider his best win in his "three fight win streak" that caused Calzaghe to change his opinion on him was a shot fat Tito Trinidad.
That's the mistake right there Sonny . Roid and Roy Jones are of no relation. By the way guys...who let this ****** in?:nut
Looks like the ******s here actually believe Jones was in his supreme prime tonight. Prime for prime we all know the result, Calzaghe didn't take it back then for a reason and it sure as hell wasn't the bull**** "Roy ducked him" a few desperate(for obvious reasons, Haye?, Hatton?, who else?) British fans are pulling out of their asses. Roy by TKO in a one-sided destruction. This is a beyond shot RJJ who was actually looking good in there, dropped him in the first and showed faster handspeed and this is a Roy any ****** in boxing would tell you has been shot since 2003.
I'm not saying he isn't shot but he still had faster hands than Calzaghe which he had to deal with and did so well. He does deserve credit for that performance which is what he will get.
Jones hasn't won a significant fight since 2004. He couldn't stop a retired, fat, former welterweight in his previous fight. He was nowhere near prime. NOWHERE NEAR. We all knew this before the fight, even if people don't want to accept it. But its fact. Prime for prime, Roy wins by the same score, or could even knock Calzaghe out. Prime Roy would likely KO Joe.
Jones admitted he was in good a shape as can be....Anything can happen in just one fight...Vitali had the eye gauged,,,so did Roy..if there was a next time for them both..maybe Joe and Lennox would get the eyes banged
