He threw 948 and landed 351. Against Kessler he actually threw more (285 landed of 1010)

I saw a punch stat that said he landed (not threw but landed) over 1000 in the fight, if you fancy tallying up a few rounds your welcome. Calazage throws more than those guys

Are you sure about that, I saw 1000landed as quoted on various reviews of the fight. I know its an extraudinery number but that was what was quoted

Reid was shot by the time Lacy got to him IMO.

    Erm......

Not sure what to say other than a solid resume.

It could be said that a few of those were at the end of their 'cycle' if you like - Richie Woodall never fought again, Eubank wasn't the same as pre-Watson II though still handy, Lacy hypejob etc.

I think the only 168lb'ers that Joe didn't face were......

Steve Collins - who ducked him
RJJ - bigger names for him to face at time, fighting JC now anyway
    Sven Ottke - wasn't interested
Markus Beyer - not sure about that one
    Dariusz Michalczewski - ditto

He wasn't helped by the common fighter/promoter relationship over here - in which the money man is the boss, rather than the fighter.

The fighter that real bugs me is Jeff Lacy ! The American fightpress and fightfans have completely rewritten history with regards him. Before the Calzaghe fights there was hardly any American writer who backed Joe to beat him or american fans, the american and british bookies had Joe has the underdog ! So was it the fact that he was rubbish really or the fach that Joe completely destroyed him as a fighter ?

you say reid was robbed against otke but not against calzaghe. :patsch

reid vs otke was a close fight but otke was the better fighter throughout, but against calzaghe, reid clearly beat him, gets robbed by the judges, and calzaghe doesn't even give him a rematch.

Oh sit that is the funniest post this week.

    Have you watched either fight?

Did Reid get warned for punching Joe in the face? Did he back off against Joe for fear of being DQ'd? Did Joe turn to the ref for a little support everytime he got hit?

I think Reid's comments after the 2 fights tell the tale. "At least Dick Turpin wore a mask" and "Joe was just too fast for me"

    Numpty.

Not this American fight fan. I remember everyone falling over themselves to praise Lacy as the next Tyson. He was supposed to be unstoppable. Anyone who tells you otherwise,- or that they knew he was just a hype job- is lying to save face. These are the same people who ranked Hopkins top 3 pfp before Calzaghe, and then five minutes after the fight were on here moaning about how Hopkins was so past it and old. It's chicken s&*t.

I think i can wrap this whole thread up with 1 question:-

    B) How many years of reigning with his title, did it take him to actually fight a fellow reigning belt holder in his own division ?

Answer: he defended that crummy title for 8 long years against guys who were on losing streaks and at the tail end of their careers.

The only real exception was Robin Reid who took him to a controversial split decision - and then he never rematched him despite the whole of Britain demanding it to clarify who was the better man.

The matchmaker thought Reid was spent after being outboxed by Malinga, then was inactive for a whole year before fighting Joe - they thought Reid would be a perfect 'former champion' for his resume and they nearly got it wrong !
