B-scene are reporting that a deal has been reached for Calderon to defend his title against Jhonriel Casimero.

My first reaction to this was disappointment. Calderon is a superb boxer but he's coming to the end of his career and now is the time he should be pushing hard for the biggest fights possible. Title unification and beating the top-rated fighters in his division should be his priority.

I must admit, I don't know much about Casimero - maybe someone who's seen him in action can tell me a bit about his style etc. Does he have a chance in this one?

I'll be sticking with a safe prediction, Calderon on points.

this is disappointing, I was hoping for Calderon vs Segura. I don't much about Casimero either, I figure Calderon by UD.

Casimero beat Canchila's ass pretty good, and Calderon is starting to fade pretty fast. That said, I don't think Casimero is the guy to beat Calderon. I've only seen a few rounds of the Canchila fight, but he looked pretty straightforward to me and not especially quick. He can punch real big, but I can see Calderon weaving in and out like he usually does and winning a wide points decision.

For whatever it's worth, Casimero has been targeting Calderon. He thinks Calderon's defensive style is tailor made for him.

Casimero has a puncher's chance, but he tends to load up his punches and Calderon will be able to dodge them all night. That being said, casimero's punches do come out fast and 2 of the 5 knockdowns in the Canchilla fight came out of nowhere. If casimero hits one of those (big IF) he is going to need to capitalize cuz they are going to be few and far between. He doesnt seem to have a jab either, pretty good defense though.

Calderon vs Casimero is not a total waste if you're just hoping for Calderon vs Segura. Here's why, Segura once defeated by Canchilla and Canchilla was defeated by Casimero. Tho they're of different fighting styles but at least it seems Casimero can give a tough fight to Calderon too.

Yeah, but Segura had a rematch with Canchilla and TKO'd him. I do hope Casimero can give a tough fight, but I doubt it. From the little I've seen, Casimero telegraphs his big shots.

NOT again Casimero is just 19 and has no chance here.Calderon schools him.

You're dreaming.Canchilla is a bum.Calderun is way better. It's all about the $$$ they make for this fight coz these young kids are poor and make more money they ever will so they take fights like these and get whooped they ain't ready.

Thats what Caldy's been trying to do. He went up in weight despite having no trouble at all making 105 and fought a guy with a 6in height advantage and a 25lb weight advantage for the Ring title. He tried to fight Canchila when he won the WBA, then he lost. He tried to fight Sosa, then he lost on the BS fight with Mayol, a guy he already beat. He was supposed to meet Viloria in a huge match and olympic rematch, but Viloria lost.

This guy isnt going to get a huge fight until he's 40. And to think he was considering a fight with Donaire at 112.

Man, when I saw Canchila beat Segura, I thought he was the next big thing. Fast, skilled, good size, and pleasing style. Just doesnt ultimately have the punch resistance necessary.
