It's likely that, at 32 and with some wear and tear, Plant is just not the same fighter physically that he was 2-3 years ago. He didn't appear as fast of hand or foot last night as we've seen in the past, and it seemed as though he struggled at times to pull the trigger.

The Plant that won 4-5 rounds from Benavidez would have outpointed that kid last night pretty comfortably.

After the Canelo money all the hunger went out the window. He was only looking at money fight like he himself commanded big money. He could have stayed active and took less pay but by fighting twice a year, make the same money or more when you combine the earning. Funny cause his stock just plummeted last night. Now he’ll be lucky to get a 100k a fight.

During the fight last night I began to wonder,,"What's is it with Plant"? He's got good boxing skills, an educated jab , footwork, and shows some good ring generalship and physically he looked in great shape last night . Then it dawned on me. He doesn't have a high gear, when someone gets inside he never seems to get out of 2nd or 3rd gear and can't fight in the pocket. Once he can't keep an opponent at arms length he has problems.Though he fought with courage and heart I don't think this kid that beat him will do a lot at 168 as he didn't look big enough to handle a really big super middleweight like Charlo who looked like he weighed 185 lbs or Mbilli.

His other problem is his left hand down style American style. It rarely works out well for fighters because they're always open to the right hand. Fighters need to be active and have really good reflexes to pull it off, but Plant is inactive and he got nailed by a number of Resendiz right hands. He got rocked multiple times because of bad habits.

I can confirm from personal experience that athleticism can drop off significantly from 28 to 32. Of course everyone is built different, but for many their athletic prime is 28. After that the body starts slowing down. And Plant most certainly relied on his athleticism.
Plus Plant is someone who always had stamina issues.

Oh, and fighting just once a year doesn´t help either.

Just caught up with the replay and I realize ringside judges have a different perspective, but, still.... What fight was David Sutherland watching....?

When questioned about his lack of right hand punches Plant admitted in the post fight interview that his right hand was bruised. But he didn't use it as an excuse; he didn't bring it up but only in response to a question.

All Caleb does is jab and run keeping his left hand low, his combos have no power, he`s just a quick spoiler, he clinched all night vs Benavidez.

He didn't use it as an excuse because his hand was fine. The reason he was keeping it at home so much is because he was having trouble landing it clean. Every time he threw it Resendiz would block or parry it and then immediately fire back two hooks. So chinny overrated low output Plant as per usual, short circuited and was incapable of adjusting against a solid pressure fighter, and got his ass beat.

Why bring it up at all? Naturally punching another guy in the head will probably bruise up your hands a bit, it is the same for everyone.

AGAIN, someone asked the question Why didn't you use your right hand more than you did? Plant didn't bring it up. In fact I asked the same question last night.

Not throwing a right due to fear of getting hit is well, silly. If that was the case why even throw a LEFT hand. Why throw punches at all? Plant certainly threw effective left hooks to Resendiz' body; which would leave him open for right hand counters would it not?

Plant got beat fair and square. Props to Resendiz for fighting with hunger and a good game plan. Hope he gets a Charlo payday.

Well... he does have a history of getting beaten senseless by Mexican pressure fighters that cut off the ring exceptionally well and it's not like Resendiz is some bum. I picked him to upset Hurd as well. So I'm not sure what's provoking that level of saltiness. Again, could you, someone, anyone please explain to me, what win does Plant have that proves he's an elite fighter? He constantly pulls out with his chin in the air, he's low output, has a pisspoor gastank, and frequently bottles it because he really really doesn't like getting hit flush. He's not nearly as slick as he or his fans think he is, and only looks good against lead foot has beens, who've been hand picked for him to beat. Unfortunately for him, Resendiz isn't a lead foot has been, and knows how to cut the ring off.
