The one thing he's going for is that he's very big at the weight, Plant is a LHW and not a small one. Hard to move up given how his power turned out. If he didn't have the bad gas tank or the low power he would be a real problem.
Plant is deceptively rangey. He has a significant reach advantage on Canelo. He also has a significant height advantage on Canelo. Further, Plant is fundamentally sound and can box. He's not going to stand in front of Canelo hunched over trading with him like Saunders did. Plant has shown an ability to lunge in, tag you, then lunge out before you can answer. Plant will fight upright, unlike Saunders who fought upright with fast feet against David Lemieux but fought hunched over with slow feet against Canelo. The reach advantage and Plant's overall skillset is going to give Canelo a lot of problems. Plant can use his footwork and control Canelo from outside with jabs and lead straights, even lead hooks and not give Canelo opportunities to return fire or get close enough to land body shots. Not only does Plant have fast hands, but he has great timing as well. I envision a contest that Canelo is the aggressor trying to walk Plant down with Plant fighting defensive in retreat putting out the jab, changing direction and trying to confuse Canelo with unpredictable footwork and movement. If you watch some of Plant's training videos, it is clear this guy is putting in some serious work in the gym. Some of his training videos look almost as intense as Canelo's training videos. I would expect Plant to outpoint Canelo early on and then its just a matter of how long Plant can maintain his footwork and ability to avoid body shots. The real question is will Canelo respect Plant's power, we know Canelo is notoriously a slow starter. I think Plant is super motivated to be at his best and hang in there, stay competitive and elusive, and try to last the distance with Canelo and get a hometown decision. Plant is originally from Tennessee but he currently resides in Las Vegas. So Canelo will be the away fighter fighting Plant in his backyard. If Plant keeps it close and surprises everybody, Plant's hometown judges may give him a controversial decision. A lot of people think that Vegas is Canelo territory who gets favor with the judges, but do not discount that this is a PBC promoted event with PBC judges and that Plant is fighting out of Las Vegas.
If GGG couldn't crack the chin of a less experienced and less juiced Canelo over 24 rounds then light puncher Plant couldn't manage it over 120. At least you acknowledge that hometown corruption exists lmao. It doesn't matter where Plant currently resides: he's a nobody, he's being paid to lose, his best win is Uzcategui and Canelo is the A-side cash cow. Even if Plant was to win 7 or 9 rounds in terms of punches landed he would still lose a decision. If he pitched a shutout then he might get a draw but I have my doubts. He didn't even look good against Uzcategui: as I remember he gassed after about 8 rounds and was rocked a couple of times. I gave Plant 8 rounds but one judge gave him 7: the cards flattered Plant because he scored 2 KD's early but he won't score them against a much more durable Canelo. Canelo is also a vastly better fighter than Uzcategui (who also has slow feet) who got schooled by Korobov. Canelo will force Plant to expend a lot of energy moving, break Plant down with bodyshots and stop him late, while up on the cards at the time. Plant isn't any better than Saunders, who was a southpaw with a much better collection of wins. It's an even bigger step up for Plant while it's a clear step down for Canelo in terms of his best opposition. Plant saw what happened to BJS and doesn't want to get his eye-socket broken for his payday, so he won't show much ambition in a fight he knows he can't win anyway. I cashed in on the Saunders fight and I'm going to cash in on this one as well.
Ive liked Plant as a fighter for quite awhile now, but as far as hisnspeed, I dont see it. Dont get me wrong, hes quick, especially when that speed is contrasted with a slower opponent. But theres lots of times I actually feel hes not fast enough for the type of fighter he is. His speed is good, but its just that imo. But fair point on me not being able to list many fighters around his size that are faster.
Well I don't expect Plant to hurt or stop Canelo, but he is capable of outboxing him over 12. GGG is not as skilled as Plant in my opinion, GGG was much tougher and more heavy handed than Plant, but GGG is a 160-lber, Plant is bigger than GGG, more rangy, more skilled, more elusive, etc. When Canelo went into the first GGG match, he fought GGG very cautiously using his footwork and skills and was very elusive. I don't imagine Canelo will fight Plant like that, because he doesn't respect his power like he did of GGG. So it's a completely different style and fight plan. With Canelo coming forward as I expect him to do vs Plant, it presents an opportunity for Plant to use his footwork and land from the outside. It may not matter where Plant resides, but if you believe in corruption, it does matter that it is a PBC promoted event. We could end up with a decision like Charlo vs Castaño with Canelo pushing the action like Castaño but Plant getting a house decision with a lower output performance but competitive rounds and some clean punches. Obviously Canelo is more skilled than Castaño but I think there could be some similarities in this one if it goes the distance. I would expect Plant to be cautious and low output vs Canelo like Jermell was vs Castaño but with some well placed punches and good defense could win some swing rounds. I could see PBC appointing some judges that would favor Plant and could give him some close rounds. It's certainly a possibility. I know most people would expect the opposite, with Canelo getting close rounds, but I generally see things differently than most people around here. There's definitely an incentive for the PBC to find judges that favor Plant, because if Plant wins by decision, that helps PBC a lot, because Plant is a PBC house fighter. Whereas Canelo is just fighting on PBC on Fox in a 1 fight deal. As far as corruption, for me a situation like this with Canelo moving to PBC in a 1 fight deal, is far more ripe for judging corruption than in other cases of two fighters fighting on the same network, whether it was HBO or DAZN. Plant's ability to avoid body shots is key. He has to fight cautious. The X-factor for me is Plant having an extremly long training camp for this one. He's been focused on this Canelo fight for a long time, and he's been in the gym for many months getting into the best shape of his life. I expect Plant to be a much better version in November than any version of him we ever seen. So you can't look back and judge how he looked against Uzcategui or any of has prior opponents. This is a Super Fight and this is the biggest fight of Plant's career. He doesn't have mental issues or motivation like Saunders. Plant will be ready and I expect him to give Canelo hell on the night. Will that be enough to win? I have my doubts but I do not expect Plant to lay down. I do not think this will be an easy win for Canelo. I could be wrong but that's the way I see it. Only time will tell to see what will happens. I think Plant is much better than Saunders. He's a legitimate SMW whereas Saunders was a blown up 160 lb-er. Plant is much bigger than Saunders, and Canelo for that matter, he's got a long reach. Saunders peaked years ago when he fought David Lemieux, Plant on the other hand still has yet to peak in my view. Plant is in his absolute physical prime and I expect him to show that in November. Don't discount how motivated Plant is to shock the world in November. I'm not saying it will happen, of course I would expect Canelo to find a way to win, but I expect this to be close and possibly a classic. We will see.
caleb plant the tennessee wigger who has only fought bums and old men gets sent into Bolivian against the proven canelo by 7th round brutal ko
> Plant is more skilled than GGG Because he runs around on the backfoot? lmfao GGG was 160 lbs but so was Canelo, at 168 he can really load up on the Mexican beef. Plant doesn't want to blow the payday so he'll be a lot more careful with his PED intake. In the grand scheme of things, Charlo is a slightly bigger U.S. star than Castano but Canelo is a vastly bigger U.S. star than Plant. Canelo got shut out by Floyd Mayweather ffs (the average media score was 11-1) but the American judges scores in America were: 9-3, 8-4, 6-6. If you believe that Caleb Plant is getting more favourable treatment from the American judges than Mayweather on any network then you need to put the crackpipe down. Plant can have the longest camp in the world and be as motivated as he likes: he can't KO Canelo, he can easily get KO'd and he can't win on the cards. Therefore he can't win short of tearing Canelo's face up with cuts or hoping Canelo overdoses on PED's. I suspect you enjoy the irony of talking about Canelo being the victim of "hometown decisions" and pretending that Canelo's fights aren't all essentially fixed lol.
I think plant will hurt his wrists & elbows if he manages to catch Canelo with shots like that....As GGG made Canelo blink , take a breath & run along the ropes then its unlikely Plant will make a dent, plus his combinations are dangerous as he is in front of Canelo to long. canelo will slip most of them anyway, then time him , bust his ribs or his liver ! BJs tried a few combinations but mainly relied on spiralling angles which worked for awhile until he slowed a bit...& again canelo timed him perfectly.
Plant is not a bum. People need to give him some respect. Canelo's best chance to win is if he slows the fight righhhht down to his tempo and just counters the heck out of Plant by setting traps. However, if Plant has a high output, fights at range and moves all night this will frustrate Canelo.
He's not a bum, no, but being charitable he's not significantly better than BJS or Smith - to get a win against Canelo he would need to be at least one clear level above them, possibly more, and he just isn't. Canelo won't need dodgy cards to win this one, it'll be KO or uncontroversial decision IMHO.
