I think you're able to make a strong case for Froch as #1 based on strength of his competition. He has faced better than Bute or Ward IMO.

Bute and Ward are more skilled than Froch and are both undefeated title-holders as well.

So my top 3 would be
    Froch
    Bute
    Ward

And they are close enough that you could put them in any order, but I would put Froch on top right now, with Bute/Ward 2a & 2b for the moment.

Kessler just won over Froch and is a 3 time worldchamp!
Kesslers defeat to Calzaghe in Wales should rate higher then all Bute fights!!!

Bute has beaten Brinkley?Zuniga? "Glasschin" Miranda and blown up Joppy..
Lost to Andrade and won the rematch...

He he, I think that Kessler "The Pirat" would win over your hero with one eye and a wooden leg...

You get rated on who you beat...
Not how good you are to avoid the best!

Kessler gave back his belt. If he thought he could come back early, he would have kept it. All the reports coming from his camp are very dark.

For me, Kessler is retired. And even if he's not, his last performances were not his best ones. Add months and months without sparring and fighting and you can be sure he would be very far from his best.

I'm a big Bute fan (Romanian/Canadian here!) and I agree with these rankings. Maybe remove Kessler because he might be out for a long time, but overall it's fair.

Ratings should be based on results rather than potential.
Froch has a far superior resume to Bute & Ward, but I wouldnt rate Froch above due to results ie.
Froch lost to Kessler, who lost to Ward. So Ward should be above Kessler at this time, and considering it was only Frochs previous fight that he lost to Kessler and Kessler hasnt fought or lost since beating Froch, so should be rated higher still.
Now Bute has a better overall resume than Ward, so should be rated above Ward.
It sounds hard and is a shame as Froch has fought some good fighters on the spin, but sadly that loss holds him back for a while until he has done a little more or one of the other guys lose, or remain inactive whilst others score wins around them.
    1. Bute
    2. Ward
    3. Kessler (who has in my opinion the best SMW resume at this time, but lost to Ward)
    4. Froch (who has a far superior resume to Bute, but lost to Kessler)

Either you give bonus for the way you win/loose or you dont for every boxers. So you cannot give Froch bonus to have lost in a close decision and not give bonus to the way Bute wins his fights.

Bute's record is better than Ward and Froch's how so?

    Bute : Andrade x2, Bika

Froch : Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Abraham

    Ward : Kessler, Green, Bika

    For me, when taking into account quality and quantity of wins it ranks as such;

    1 Ward
    2 Froch
    3 Bute

The point is Froch lost closely to one of the best at the weightclass.

Bute has recently beaten very average, non-ranked fighters.
