Ring Magazine, How can you have Hopkins (The Bigger Man) #4 P4P, 3 spots above Pavlik (The Smaller Man) at #7 when the rest of the world and probably yourselves also have Pavlik a big favorite in their upcoming bout?
I wouldn't call Hopkins the bigger man. Kelly is actually taller and I think his reach is bigger. Both are/were middleweights. Honestly, I think Hopkins is a little bit "smaller". Bhop weighed in at 156 for DLH and 157 for Trinidad, two of his finest performances. Keep in mind that B-Hop was in his 30s for these performances, when most fighters have gained some weight since their 20s. Pavlik, although he started his career as a JMW, hasn't fought below 159 for a long time, and he's still at an age where he could add a few pounds.
Well, Pacman is ranked 1 and most people have him losing by knockout to someone outside the top 10 in his next fight... B-Hop is a legend, Beating Jermain Taylor doesn't make you pass him in the list, since B-Hop also did it, when Jermain was in his prime. Everybody knows that the Hopkins fights took something out of Taylor, he got a gift decision against Cory Spinks and barely beat Kassim Ouma ! Beating Miranda also does very little in a p4p ranking, in my opinion.
Also, consider Hopkins lost to Taylor twice while Pavlik beat him twice. It makes zero sense. Probably Golden Boy propaganda BS.
How did the BHop fight take something out of Jermain??? :rofl :rofl :rofl He took a little bit of a beating late in the 1st fight, but did better and actually won the championship rounds in the rematch. Taylor was being hyped uncontrollably, but the truth is he hadn't fought anyone until BHop. He seems like a different fighter now because since he has been fighting the elite fighters.
Because the Ring's rankings are not objective and because they're mostly based on past accomplishments, rather than current ability (judged on the basis of recent performances and expected near future performances).
