Even that was impressive. He took a couple of hail mary shots in the middle of the round with aplomb, and once his legs started disintegrating he wisely began to take evasive action. And still land cleaner shots than Smith while backpedaling. :yep
Impressed? Hardly. Always knew Smith was journeyman level, and Calloway, even though he has improved greatly, is still a journeyman.
Calloway boxed using very good fundamentals until the last round when he started backing straight up. I was impressed by seeing an aging veteran use his skills and experience to defeat a bigger and stronger man but neither one of these guys is quite world class level although Calloway might actually do something as a cruiserweight.
 not impressed like that. of course i wasn't speaking relative to the division. calloway isn't ever going to get a title or anything. i mean for a 4-1 underdog journeyman, he put on a damn fine performance against a fringe contender who was supposed to beat him. i'm only saying that he performed above his level; not that he has reached another.
I betted big on him for Vcash, the odds were to good to be true. I was impressed but hes 38 years old hes not going to accomplish anything else.
that's what i mean. who knew he had a fight like that in him? good swan song. and if plans to campaign at cruiser, i'll be sure to pay attention (but certainly not holding my breath for him to beat anyone significant).
It's still a nice win for Calloway considering his journeyman career. Smith is a pretty decent fighter, no world beater, but a capable fringe guy. Calloway may at least be able to parlay this into a nice payday before he hangs it up.
I'll agree with you there, but I gotta say Smith looked pretty damn bad in this fight. Calloway doesn't have the greatest set of whiskers, and if Smith would of put more effort into it like he did in the 10th he'd have KO/TKO'd Calloway, but he let Calloway outwork him. I think Calloway can beat some guys or give some guys hell in the Cruiserweight division but he needs to stay below 200lbs, fighting heavyweights is suicide for him in the long run. Hopefully this catapults him into a title shot at Cruiser, he deserves it for all the short notice and prospect raising he's done in his career. It's not often you see a guy who actually improves at the point in the their career that Rob did... I think he'll get taken out by the top guys, but he deserves the shot and the paycheck.
Calloway is a pretty good boxer , but he cannot take a good punch and is undersized. Against fighters that arent big punchers Calloway can box well. Calloway nearly beat Mccline , it was a very close fight. Although, as soon as Calloway faces another puncher he will be crushed again , like against Rahman and Chagaev.
Yeah, I was pretty impressed. I thought he did exactly what he needed to win. He had a good fight plan, it seemed - and he executed it well at least until the last round when he got caught. For someone of Calloway's calibre this is a big win. Just a few months ago he was beating up on ancient former welterweight Buck Smith. And with this fight being on national TV, it should give his career a little left.
Calloway looked garbage in previous fights I have seen him. This was definitely the performace of his life, and guarantees him a spot or two next year headlining an ESPN Friday Night Fight. They say he got in some sparring in Phily with Eddie Chambers and that Cunningham, I guess it payed off.
Did you see Calloway vs Mccline on Espn? Calloway all but won the fight! He certainly has improved as a boxer. Mccline nearly won a belt against Byrd, so that obviously was a great success for Calloway to be competitive.
