:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl Touche' I actually like Calloway. There's something about him that makes me want to root for him to transcend his regional status. He's a guy who's fought for years - sure he's not great - but never really gotten any breaks, unlike say somebody like Ruiz, who's basically just as limited, but signed with a powerful promoter. One thing to remember about these midwest fighters is that they don't typically get the sort of top level training that the fighters who sign with the big promoters do. Apparently Calloway is now with a better trainer and is getting better sparing. Check out this excellent article on Calloway from the main page: www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=11772&more=1
If Calloway's scheduled(on boxrec) bout with Galen Brown goes ahead , and Rob knocks him out(as he should) Calloway could legitimately look as being a voluntary defense for someone at Cruiserweight having put a good run of results together . I could see someone like Enzo taking him on , but Maccarinelli would punch far to hard for him .
Another thing , how long has Vcash been back ? I only noticed when a first saw this post earlier today .
Nice to see Calloway get some respect. He's a good upper-level journeyman who can beat club fighters left and right but just never quite has the skill to step up a level. But, he is precisely the kind of fighter that keep boxing going. Dedicated, puts on a good show, can draw crowds in the midwest where boxing isn't a traditionally big audience event. He brings non-traditional fans to the game. These kind of guys are who fuel the sport on the grassroots level. He won't ever win a world title, but one nice six figure payday would be nice for him. However, that said, let's see him beat one more decent fighter before that payday comes. A win over a Terry Smith shouldn't necessarily catapult him in with a top guy.
very right. Rob Calloway is from right here where i live, St. Joseph Missouri, and he is absolutly HUGE in this city, almost a freaking hero to most people around this city. his fights here in town, at the Civic Arena, sell out everytime. unfortunetly, i had to work last night and missed the fight completly, much to my discontent:| so if ANYONE can send me the fight, i would be VERY VERY appreciative!!!!
I like him, and hope that he gets a nice payday before he hangs them up. Judging by the way he looked last night despite being 38, I feel he still has a couple years left in him. He fought a smart fight last night and got a decisive win over a solid guy.
Excellent performance by Calloway. I was expecting this to be more or less another Smith-Davis, with Smith struggling but ultimately prevailing by use of his physical advantages, but Calloway came with a great gameplan and stuck to it all night, while Smith fought a very unintelligent match and seemed to just swing wildly with the expectation to be able to plow Calloway over.
