Andy Lee has done explaining to do. He scored the first half of the fight broadly in line with what the rest of us were seeing. Those rounds were genuinely nip and tuck. It was perfectly acceptable that two knowledgeable viewers could differ over many of the early rounds. But, but, but....the last 6 rounds were much clearer. Ryder had clearly taken over the fight. Yet somehow Andy never noticed Ryder was opening up a substantial lead on the cards after 6 (or at any rate he should have been had fair play been in operation). This is extraordinary. How could Andy Lee have got it so wrong?

All 3 judges gave Smith 5 of the first 6 rounds and all 3 judges gave Smith rounds 8, 9 and 10 as well. So they saw it as two fights, the first 6 rounds in which Smith was winning round after round, and then the last 6 rounds which they saw essentailly even.

I personally haven't seen this one so I can't comment on how accurate either perspective is, but I do plan on scoring it myself when I get a chance. What I would ask you IB is that if you concede that each of the first 6 rounds were close, then is it crazy or concievable in your view that Smith may have nicked one or two of those first 6 that you gave to Ryder? It sounds like you're more bewildered at how the judges could have given Smith rounds 8, 9 and 10 rounds that you thought were much clearer Ryder rounds than the first 6.

I look forward to going through this myself and seeing which perspective my scoring is closer to, the official judges or to IB's.

I think if you awarded Smith every round that was even remotely competitive, you could produce a 115-113 card for him (that sees him sweeping the first half and nicking the ninth). There simply aren't nine in there for him, as O'Connor had (nor even as many as eight, as did the other two judges).

That said, when I say the first six rounds were close or competitive, that doesn't mean that having Smith up 60-54 would be all that reasonable. You'd have to be really stretching for him. I just mean they were close & competitive relative to rounds 7-8 and 10-12 when Ryder was beating his ass (plus the ninth, in which he did so only marginally less)

I loved Andy Lee inside the ring but I truly believe he's a sell out.

Andy's having it close at the halfway stage is perfectly acceptable. Not scoring the second half of that fight to Ryder is unforgivable. Andy doesn't have the excuse of ignorance etc. He knows boxing. It's hard to think of an innocent explanation.

Judges and Commentators needs to explain how they manage to come up with those ridiculous scores and of course they will try to explain their way out of it. Do it on TV in front of the fans and media. We just keep hammering them on how it was a wide when the fight was close. Give em an a@# whipping!!!

One possible thing that could help a little bit is to have a neutral impartial commentary guy give HIS scores live every couple of rounds during the fight. This MIGHT stop some if the judges, by shaming them when the commentary guys score is widely different from theirs???
Some guy used to do this on US TV for years, think he died recently, the commentary team would divert to him every few rounds during the minutes break to get his opinion and his score. Can't recall his name, old white guy, strong accent like a new York type accent???

This shameful robbery should be mentioned anytime a Brit poster calls US boxing corrupt . Ok is IS corrupt but so is boxing everywhere. Unfortunately.

Getting the judges to attend the post fight press conference after any fight decided by scorecards.Maybe then when they know that they are going to have to explain the scores if it goes distance they might change there ways. Never will happen though.

One of the worst robberies in boxing history, I love Ryder and I had the same scorecard, robbed off making millions and being a title holder, fulfilling his dream
