Callum Smith vs. Erik Skoglund WBSS Bout on September 16

The battle for the inaugural 168lb Muhammad Ali Trophy begins on September 16th with the first of the World Boxing Super Series’ hugely anticipated super middleweight match ups. British betting favourite and number two seed Callum Smith (22-0, 17 KOs) will meet undefeated Swedish star Erik Skoglund (26-0, 12 KOs) in a quarter-final bout at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Smith, who is undefeated in his twenty-two professional contests, selected Skoglund as his quarter-final opponent during the live Draft Gala on July 8th at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, and as one of the four seeded super middleweights he will enjoy home advantage for his first tournament test.

‘’A ring is a ring no matter where it is, but of course, I’m happy to be fighting in Liverpool,’’ said Smith. ‘’This is my home and this is where all my best performances as a professional have been. I like fighting in Liverpool, and with the crowd behind me, I will have an added advantage on September 16th.

Ticket details for the quarter-final clash between Smith and Skoglund on September 16th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool will be announced next week.

The Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight will have a lot of competition for viewers due to a couple of important fights taking place on the same evening with Erik Skoglund facing Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders defending against Willie Monroe Jr.

A tasty night of Boxing to look forward too me finks.

Skoglund has to fight in Smith's hometown because Smith wouldn't fight in Dirrell's for a world title.

It was interesting hearing Smith talking about the fear factor bringing out the best in him. I think his performances reflect that. In fights where he's expected to win easy, I think he coasted and laboured a fair bit. In the fights where there's been an expectation that it's going to be a tough night, he blitzed it.

100% right m8, seen him live the night he fought at Goodison and it was the worst I have seen him, you could see in his body language he was going through motions. I think after his next fight he will be in a great position and I would not be surprised if he wins tournament with three stoppage wins.

Apparently that Skoglund is 6"1 but he looked a lot smaller face to face with Smith.

I know I thought that. Callum is one boxer who is actually taller than listed he's 6"3.5. If you see him next to bellew he is the taller man.

    Haha!

Smith ducked it because he didn't want to fight one day earlier in Dirrell's hometown.

you don't know the full story mate.
Smith has been WBC mandatory for over a year, He was going to fight jack for it but he chose the unification against degale in January. Then after that fight jack vacated so he was meant to fight dirrell in May but talks couldn't be finalized / broke down. Then it was scheduled for September 9th in September which was all agreed. Then dirrell tried to move it to September 8th in his hometown, then after that wasn't agreed they were going to try and move it to October. It's clear Dirrell doesn't want to fight smith, his team were doing all they can to get out of it. First by not finalizing the fight in May, then agreeing to fight on September 9th and then trying to move it to his town (so he could no doubt get a robbery decision) knowing smith's team wouldn't accept this, then suggesting October which they knew smith's team wouldn't want to wait and negotiate more. Smith even turned down a fight with Degale @ the 02 arena probably on PPV to try and fight dirrell, and to top it off, smith accepted the offer to join the WBSS where he will fight harder opponents in Eubank and Groves and fight for a world title if he gets to the final yet direll was offered to join the WBSS and fight smith in the tournament for thw WBC belt and he declined!
    To sum it up the Dirrell's are p u s s y 's and their uncle is a p r i c k and smith would have battered him, but dirrell didn't want it.
Why didn't Dirrell try and move the fight with Benavidez to September 8th in his hometown like he was trying to do with Smith?
