Callum Smith vs Erik Skoglund Liverpool September 16

Seen Eddie hearn say the other day that Sky are unlikely to take this fight as they don't want to be tied down to showing all WBSS fights over the next 12 months. I wonder if this fight will even be shown on UK tv, if it's true that the WBSS will only sell to broadcasters that will take the whole lot of them then maybe none will bother?...

 

Hearn doesn't want to take the two tournaments because it would restrict his dates with Sky to single figures in a year. I think that's a weak excuse given the fights would fall outside of his deal with Sky. You have to air all the fights as per the contract, however only the main events which is doable for ITV/Channel 5/Dave.

Odd for Sky not to be broadcasting these fights but then again they have been on the back foot recently with sports rights. I get the feeling boxing outside of Joshua isn't a priority for Sky.

 

If you're mandatory for a world title and the other guy won't fight he gets stripped. Benavidez stepped up and now he gets the shot. He's 7 years younger than Smith so he didn't have to wait long.
You don't get what happened with Degale? I put a link on with Smith's promoter in shock at Smith not taking the fight. It's not easy to blame those nasty Dirrells for that.
The chances are that Smith will run into a dangerous fighter. But after ducking Degale and Dirrell for world titles what are the chances that he will be unable to make 12stone any more and start campaigning at a new weight with a warm-up at the Echo?

 

I meant I don't get what happened with Degale from Smith's perspective.

I've no idea how he makes the 168 either but I'm confident he will win a world title at this weight before moving up.

 

Seems David Price is going to make his return on the bill.

Just noticed that Martin Murray is listed on Boxrec that he is fighting on this card.

It's good that he's staying active but I really don't know which direction he goes. It seems Hearn doesn't know what to do with him either. He's not an attractive proposition for any fighter cos stylistically he's very hard to beat and it tends to be an ugly fight. I hope he gets a big pay day fighting in his own town stadium so he can retire financially comfortable with all his faculties.

 

Anyone heard any news about what Chanel this card is going to be on? Is it even going to be televised in the UK?

 

I'm hoping Sauerland cave in at the last minute and allow Sky to purchase the fights with UK fighters.

 

A lad boxing on the card is saying Sky, not sure if he knows something we don't or just assuming
