Is Callum Smith the most unimportant British (ex) world champion of all time?


Considering the British history in the SMW division and how we normally jump all over any world champion and support our fighters.. outside of Liverpool I've never heard anybody mention him that positively.

When's the last time you heard anybody say "I can't wait for the Smith fight Saturday"? Never, it doesn't happen.

Nobody cares about him, sad really.

I know what you mean. But he's a very good fighter, and usually good to watch with some highlight reel KO's.

It's strange. Why is that? Surely his dull personality can't be the whole reason, or can it?

I personally like watching him and make sure I watch all his fights. Love his catch- counters. But I avoid all his interviews cause they're unwatchable lol

Maybe in this social media age you have to have a personality (which is wrong). Or maybe his two poor performances agaimst Ryder and Alvarez have really put people off.

 

It was definitely his performance against Canelo that out me off him.

He's as dull as dishwater but so is Joe Joyce and I like him

 

Yeah, I thought Canelo would win, but I expected Smith to be able to keep him at range for the start of the fight and bag a few rounds. Very underwhelming performance.

 

Joe Gallagher said he was only given 6 weeks notice for the Canelo fight. Although that may be true, he knew he was in the frame to fight Canelo anyway so I don't see how it can be used as an excuse ? To be fair to Callum Smith, Canelo never managed to stop him when he did stop Plant and Saunders, although they were a lot more competitive.

 

Yeah, even though Amir Khan is a completely different kettle of fish to Smith, I just figured Khan did well in the early rounds and had some good moments, therefore Smith, with his size, range and jab would give Canelo something to think about.
