Nonito doesn't have big calves for being Filipino I don't mean to generalize just he doesn't seem 100 oercent Filipino to me or your typical at least and for not having big calves, big hands, muscular, etc or ither theories on people have on punching power Nonito just goes against the grain when it comes to boxing. Doesn't have big calves, isn't muscularly cut, just physically doesn't look like a fighter yet he's one of the best. Never judge a book by its cover.

what Pac's calves do for him is assist him with his movement. With his sometimes off balance style if he didnt have those big calves he would not be able to adjust so quickly after some of those wild misses. He would probably be doing quite a few face plants. they also assist his quick in and out movements. His Legs are like the those off road shock absorbers with built in coils.

Legs more important than calves IMHO. Punch starts from the foot up, and if you have explosive calves that's an added benefit.

they don't help much with power, as biomechanically they only travel a short distance- for example, try jumping with just your calves, vs with your glutes/quads. Look at Ray Robinson, he had smaller calves but he had a good size to his thigh and ass (no homo).

Calves do help a lot with stability however which is probably why Pac can take a decent punch, and also why he can do weird punches which would normally set a fighter off balance

yeah. the muscle is so dense and the potassium requirement so high during his constant motion - I'm sure of it. He even has the herky jerky motion I associate with unbalanced calves. the surface area to volume ratio creates areas where oxygen and heme groups can't maintain the necessary homeostatic balance deep in the muscle during his extreme anaerobic exertions.

Do you see these giant calves as a personal genetic flaw of his or something that could have been prevented with the right training?

maybe ... but I know my calves always cramped like a ***** - they were strong as ****, though, even fighting at 118 lbs.

I think the cramps are a curse, the stability a blessing. What do Pac and I have in common? Herky jerky styles in and out on the toes, big calves, and lifelong cramping problems.
