Any thoughts on the silky smooth boxer Calvin Grove? How good of a fighter was he in your opinion? He doesn’t get mentioned enough here but he was a very capable fighter with a nice classy style, although he lacked power. He’s mostly known as a mover but he was more than willing to trade punches when didn’t need to, which has led to some of his losses. Had the height, reach, speed, and foot movement and was a quality operator when he chose to box. He’s been involved in great entertaining fights such as his 2 fights with Jorge Paez, Azumah Nelson, and he also stopped Jeff Fenech as well. This content is protected
His 2 classic fights with Jorge Paez, Azumah Nelson, his shocking KO of Jeff Fenech, and his hard fought fight with Bernard Taylor This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected

Ok I'm probably going to get flak but here it is anyways: Grove was a very good boxer. He also beat Seabrooks and for a time nobody wanted to face him AND the TV networks were hesitant to use him because of his safety first style. When he became champion he had a very hard time getting fights. Now the only thing that was saving him was he was signed with HBA promotions so he did have access to minor cable stations. The Paez fight pretty much ruined him. And you know what? It was a robbery that nobody talks about. Sure Paez knocked him down 3 times in the 15th but what about all the other 14 rounds? Grove had his way I think I gave Paez 2 /3 rounds up until the 15th. The mistake Grove made was going to fight in Mexico but at the time he didn't have a choice due to the fact he was having problems landing fights. After the first Paez fight Grove wasn't the same and he tried to tailor his style to be more entertaining. The closest I saw Grove get back to form was the Nelson fight where he fought Azhuma very close. Bernard Taylor was an INCREDIBLE technician who turned pro too late and he also lacked durability. But for pure boxing skills he was a beast. He beat Grove fair as Grove got carried away and got countered. The Liberatore fight was very entertaining but Grove was past his best. Grove had a bit of good luck in Australia beating Fenech and Ellis twice. But to be honest a prime Jeff would have been too strong for Grove in my opinion.
