    I wouldn't bank on it...

Sorry. Yeah, it'd be nice to see Calvin again. Skilled HWs who actually train are in short supply and sorely missed.

Here's hoping there was a successful surgery that just never got publicized.

I can't say I'm thrilled that, if there was one, he'd tempt fate and continue fighting though. I'd rather him keep the good two eyes, especially if there's a higher risk of further damage in his surgically repaired one.

I always liked Calvin as a fighter. He had skills, power, and always showed up in shape and ready to fight, unlike a lot of heavyweights these days. He was good for the sport. But if there is an increased risk of that eye going blind again, then I would rather see him stick to training fighters as he has been.

If he regained his sight, that's great and it'd be kind of stupid to risk it again.

I'm actually sorry to hear this. I always like Brock and for a boxer to fight at the highest levels with a eye injury is insane. Not to mention the fact that Brock has a finance degree and he could be doing other thing. Seriously, what boss wouldn't want a guy like Brock working in his bank? Scratch that...I forgot Calvin is not a crook.

God I hope his eye is better. This always really bothered me- nice guy like Brock saddled with the results of a surgery gone bad.

If his eye is better and he comes back- a big time welcome back. If his eye is not better, then what in gods' name is he doing? You can't fight one eye from the night.

    POST SCRIPT:

Apparently, he did get another surgery:

"Following surgery for a detacted retina - he awaits medical clearance..."

He's got an accounting career to back up on. Anyway, Frazier fought with one eye so I guess anything's possible but I wouldn't bet on it with today's ultra "safety-first" athletic commissions. What a shame. . .Brock had potential.

I wondered what happened to him. Was this an injury that occured in the ring or in training? (Or not boxing related at all?)

It was a botched surgery after the Chambers fight. Detached retina which should have been pretty easily repaired.

I never like hearing about fighters fighting through with busted eyes, Vasquez did it, Brewster did it and they never look the same. I hope he doesn't fight again for his sake, even though he was good for the division. He has business skills so he should look at other avenues before pursuing a boxing career, or at least one that has him coming into contact with legit threats.
