I always liked Calvin, but I wouldn't want to see him fight again. He took his craft as far as he could and seemed to have a decent career outside the ring. Not worht the risk.
Just as an addendum to everyone talking about possibly using his finance degree in another career, since his eye went out he's been doing real estate in his hometown of Charlotte. http://www.thenicholscompany.com/CALVIN.HTM
point 1- if this bothers you, u need to watch tennis..why do you give a crap about him taking a risk? the heavyweights are such garbage right now he probably wont even get punched in the eye point 2- he has all these degrees..hes smart, he knows the risks..hes a big boy...theres nothing he can do that he can make alot of money that quickly... point 3- quit being a wuss
Eh... I can't say I'm all that excited to see him back. Brock was a well-rounded fighter who put on some entertaining shows, but like others have said, Brock took it about as far as he could. IMO, he doesn't really have a major weapon or advantage that he can utlilize to get into the upper echelons of the HW division. He could become a fringe contender, however, and make some decent coin. Brock (after a few tuneups) would be a good test for an up and comer like Boystov or Pianeta.
Well 3 months ago Calvin Brock said he "hopes to resume his career" but he still does not have vision in his right eye. He said he can "see images in daylight, but nothing descriptively" and that he's still praying the vision will come back but admitted that literally there is no chance right now. So 3 months ago he's blind, and now he's getting medical clearances to fight again? Also, he's expecting his first child (a daughter) this month. I admire his faith in God and he's definitely a good man, but his career as a fighter is done. He's 35 now, been out for nearly 3 years and he knows who's still at the top of the division (Klitschko) and knows he's not gonna beat him. Brock was a good all around boxer but didn't have any special attributes that made him excel over the others, other than being in good shape. He's successful in higher-end real estate and has a family and child (any day) to look after, he won't risk further injury.
Good for him! (regarding the daughter) Could that possibly have been a motive behind hinting at the comeback? Maybe despite providing well for his family, he wants that extra little boost that a one-night six-figure payday can provide. A little something-something to set aside for the college fund, one less thing to worry about? Like you said, he's a smart guy. Also, don't forget - there are less scary propositions than going back up against the demon that haunts him. Haye has a belt, too. Brock at his best would have given the current version of Haye a hard time. If he could turn back the clock and train his butt off like he always did... As far as getting licensed blind, unfortunately it's happened before in this sport. Mesi got cleared after a clot in his brain, and Morrison was freaking HIV positive, yet they split a bill a few years back!
