In many peoples opinion. Hopkins then (and possibly now) was levels above Froch in name, marketability and boxing ability.

Froch was an unknown at the time, Hopkins was everything Joe needed at that time.

To say Joe ducked Froch is ridiculous.

 

I am sure Hopkins would dominate Carl early as he did Joe early on, and probably for longer, the question would be whether Carl would force Bhop to gass.

But to say that Joe couldn't have fought them both (ie 3 fights in 2 years) for 3 massive final paydays is the real ridiculous statement.

 

Maybe so, but it was nowhere near a sell out in Vegas! you could get tickets easily.

I'm a fan of both Calzaghe and Froch and I doubt Calzaghe ducked Froch but it was convnient that he moved up when Froch became mandatory!

I think Calzaghe would have outboxed Froch but I dont think It would have been as easy as some think.

Calzaghe coming to end of career Froch near prime is the same as Froch near end of career and Groves near prime, Froch has done what Calzaghe didnt,it could have been a big mistake taking on the prime and hungrier fighter, we will never know with Calzaghe / Froch.

 

But at the time Joe v Froch wouldnt have been a massive payday....he was pretty unknown in the UK never mind worldwide.

Hopkins-Jones...Froch? No. he wanted the big names and then to retire, that is not a duck nor is it foolish nor did i say he couldnt have fought Froch.

Froch did nothing for his legacy then

 

Convenient for people claiming so. For Joe Hopkins and Jones were much bigger fights and after that Joe had no reason to fight on, the Froch fight would not have lived up to the billing of those 2

 

on the other hand, there was no excuse for Joe not to be fighting Carl for his commonwealth reign when Joe faced subnationals regularly.

A commonwealth champion would be a natural opponent for a world champion, perhaps though too high an opponent for a lesser wbo title holder.

 

No excuse? He didnt need an excuse. it was about levels and at that time Froch was well below Jones and Hopkins. This is circular and pointless now.

Yep, hear what you're saying, will always be a hot topic when a new fighter enter's the frame when the champion is getting to the end of his career. Different era's!

Saying that though I give props to Froch for taking on the new breed but again that's more down to the fact he's fought everyone else, similar to Calzaghe but he decided to move up.

 

All very true fella, i dont think Froch actually wanted Groves in the first place (he was mandatory and Froch didnt want to lose his belt and i think from the start Froch was very cagey\dismissive about it happening at all) but thats a whole other debate haha

 

I agree. This is a sad excuse for Froch not giving Groves the rematch because Joe never fought him lol :verysad

 

The right thing to do is give him a re-match!
But
If it was me I wouldn't fancy going through that again would you? Although it may well be the most lucrative fight out there for him unless he moves up! or Golovkin fight can be made.

 

Froch has two honorable options rematch or retire. Anything else will look like he's avoiding Groves.

hungry Froch would have taken him out im sure, he's been studying joe preparing to take his titles ,and then suddenly joe moves up in weight to take on senior boxers

Froch would have walked calzaghe down , cut the ring of and force him to trade.. smile while eating a few slaps and then place some crisp venomous punches on calzaghes face and ribs

joe wouldnt be fighting old man hopkins or jones who can only throw in the first round and then pace themselves the rest of the fight in fear of gassing out
