If that's the case then their final bit of credibility is out the door, they must go by the morons at Boxrec's point of view.

Good call...Trinidad's win over Joppy doesn't do enough to get him into the top 50. Top 100 is probably a better placement.

Hopkins was a 4:1 underdog when he fought Trinidad. Trinidad was undefeated, and had just obliterated Joppy to win a portion of the middleweight crown. At the time, the majority of boxing fans (me excluded) believed Trinidad was going to walk through him en route to a megabout with RJJ, only....Hopkins had other plans.

I remember this fight and the times very well. It was the first major sporting event after 911 and it happened somewhere around the same time Byrd bested Tua in an IBF eliminator.

It's easy to criticize the Trinidad victory retroactively, but that was a sensational victory.

His victory against Tarver was equally magical.

Will a win over Calzaghe surpass either of these two victories? I highly doubt it, because after Hopkins outclasses Calzaghe, we'll once again be viewing things in hindsight, and in doing so, many people will recognize that Calzaghe is grossly overrated and that victories over the mediocre Lacy and the good-but-not-great Kessler aren't what they're being made out to be.

Things will be put in perspective, and I'm hard-pressed to see how future boxing historians will view Hopkins's inevitable forthcoming victory against Calzaghe in a better light than his victories over Trinidad and Tarver, especially Trinidad.

Does this mean I think Trinidiad can now, or ever would, have beaten Calzaghe? NO! But that's NOT the issue at hand.

If Calzaghe was half as good as many of you seem to think, he'd have something more impressive than Eubanks as his keynote vitcory.

    Remember that.

    **** 'em, they're done.:yep

They probably only rank Roy top 50. I rank him top 25, well deserved.

The Super Middleweight Division, and its entire twenty-five year history is ****!

It's a resting place for overweight middleweights and underachieving light heavys.

Hopkins's three biggest wins are against Trinidad, Tarver, and Winky, all of whom were universally ranked as top P4P fighters when Hopkins beat them.

To date, Calzaghe has never even fought a fighter worthy of consideration on any P4P charts.

    It is what it is.

You guys are twisting and turning things to make Calzaghe seem better than he is because he lacks any really noteworthy victories on his mediocre, albeit unblemished record.

    Great points.

I think people sometimes put too much stock on how many titles one had or how many defenses one had. That's all nice and all but sometimes it gets too superficial.

I think what you have to do is look at each fighter's circumstances leading up to the fight. And you brought up some great points about the Tito fight.

Most of these old time establishments give moderners ZERO credit and glorify a guy like Jack Dillon who doesn't deserve to be mentioned within the same sentence as the great moderner.

Case in point, Roy Jones is one of the best 25 fighters to have ever lived by default, in my opinion, one of the best 5 in ability. So for them and other hoodlums like Bert Sugar to act like Roy doesn't matter as much as Gene Tunney insults my intelligence.

:huh Tarver p4p? Those words should only be uttered if the word not is invloved. Winky is not p4p at 170. Also when did this turn into who has a better record.

Calzaghe's career was in ruins until he beat Lacy. And no doubt about it, he got credit for that win. When I mean in ruins I'm talking about he never done enough to be considered a true elite great. Wins over a past prime Eubank, Woodhall, Brewer, and Mitchell, were not worth shouting about. But credit where its due, Calzaghe has been consistent and got the big wins over Lacy and Kessler to make his 10 year reign look better.

He's rightfully one of the best fighters in the world at the moment.

I don't know what Calzaghe is talking about. Trinidad was a far better fighter than Lacy, even though he moved up in weight. He was much more seasoned and at the top of his game before Hopkins exposed him. He was the first fighter to stop Joppy if my memory serves me correctly.

Ahh ok all time you mean. Yeah you can only go by what you see. Most of the time. Also if there is no footage of a fighter then you cannot possably rank him.

I have seen people on the Classic forum arguing H2H status about people who there is no footage of. However, you are sometimes somewhat unduly harsh to older fighters imo.

I have Roy just inside top 20. And numero uno H2H.

Tarver might not have been a P4P guy but he was recognized as the best LHW when they fought. And that counts for a lot.

Again, i think it's important to look at the circumstances of each fight to make a judgment instead of just focusing on title defenses and belts. That can get superficial. I mean Mayorga was a multiple champion. Was he great?

Hopkins was a 3:1 underdog. No one gave him a shot. He was moving up 2 weight classes and coming off of two losses. Those are monumental obstacles. And he was like 41 when they fought.

Agreed. I never gave Hopkins a chance.
