I know you are not having a pop, you are just making strange assumptions based on some kind of preconceived bias that he is overrated and thus scared rather than the actual facts. The facts are his lawyers are currently in legal proceedings against his promoter. It doesn't get much simpler than that, he can't make the best fights when he has no promoter and would potentially be in breach of contract. Now you need to consider why he wants to leave his promoter when his promoter is the one that wants him to be the chicken that you describe. Kessler has always maintained he wants the best fights and he is the one taking steps towards that in court.
I give Kessler some stick on here not because i dont like him but just because guys like TFFP pick apart Hatton's career who has tested himself against the very best boxing has to offer, but then absolutely love a guy like Kessler who operates in a nothing division, who is best known for losing comfortably against Calzaghe. Yeah he beat Andrade but im trying to work out why some guys on here look upon Kessler like hes Carlos Monzon .. I think its the 'Viking Warrior' image they love and the tattoos. TFFP would you be so kind, without getting upset to explain to me what it is about Kessler that drives you wild ?? I think your a great poster on here and i like reading your posts but you are so biased towards your favourite fighters, Kessler has done nothing to warrant the hero worship he gets on Eastside ..
TFFP is one of the most objective and analytical posters on this forum. I don't know who you are Axl_Nose, but you've certainly got the wrong end of the stick with regards to this so-called 'hero worship'.
Ahhh, i thought it might be something to do with that .. It just didnt make sense to me that after his profile was raised with the Calzaghe fight, he would just disappear .. TFFP thankyou for letting me know that and hopefully he'll be getting back into the mix soon .. He really needs to settle the case with his promoter though, these are his prime years were he can make his money. I do actually believe its a statement of fact that he is over-rated, simply because he's rated because of the Calzaghe 'loss' and beating Andrade .. He's never actually beaten anybody of any stellar class but once again, he operates in a division were he probably wont have to beat anybody with any true talent .. I think Froch v Kessler would be a good option for him even though i think Froch's unorthodox style would beat him ..
That is difficult to say, both parties tend to keep things close to their chest like in any legal proceedings. I don't think people really understand the whole thing. There is this assumption Kessler is somehow being a chicken and could easily go and get another fight if he wants. The way people simplify it is quite amazing. I only wish they were right. When Kessler was starting his career in Denmark, Palle is the only promoter in Denmark. So you either like it or lump it and get no fights. Palle being the businessman that he is always writes an insurance policy into his contracts that states if a fighter walks away they will not be able to fight for 2 years starting from when they are no longer ranked by an ABC (i.e. could be a lot longer than 2 years). This is what we saw with Mads Larsen who is now fighting out of Germany after an extended absence, when he tried to leave Palle. People might ask WHY did Kessler sign a contract with this guy? But in reality Palle did make the fights that made Kessler a unified champ, a mega-fight with Calzaghe for all the marbles, and a multi-millionaire. He signed in good faith that sort of matchmaking would continue. I think Palle had a change of strategy once Mikkel lost, because he's getting old and realises Kessler is his only gravy train now. He wants to leave something to his daughters, and if he puts Kessler in the risky fights he might lose that. So these people that think he should just go and make another fight are living in cuckoo land. If he does that he could REALLY end up pissing his career away because he'll be about of the game for years, potentially. At least this way there will be a settlement. Some sort of compromise that Kessler has to fulfil one more mandatory for Palle, or perhaps buy out his contract.
I thought he lost the Hopkins fight. He had a good career though and its not all his fault that the big fights did not come untill late in his career. His wins over Lacy and Kessler were big wins against young fighters.Joe will never be my favorite fighter but he achived a lot and does deserve to be recognised as one of the uk`s best of all time.
Calzaghe made the fight Vs. Hopkins look easy. He is one of my favorite fighters. Very talented fighter.
It wasn't easy but he did win for sure, quite comfortably in the end in my opinion. Joe was just one of those fighters who will never do enough for some people despite comfortably beating everyone put in front of him. I'm starting to see a similar pattern emerge with Dawson.
