Considering Joe doesn't hit as hard as Johnson I don't see how in the hell he stops Jones ..Especially a prime Jones who no one could hit flush !

Accummulation of punches; if Calzaghe manages to work inside, push Jones back against the ropes and wail away for 12 rounds. RJJ must keep centre ring; box and move for 12 rounds. Calzaghe would pressure him more than anyone he fought at super middleweight

More than a prime James Toney ??I don't see how he catches Jones with enough punches to really keep him honest !Not a prime Jones ..Now maybe but in his prime I don't see it ..

Two fighters - Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns, how do they stack up against Joe Calzaghe, both fought at SMW

Joe Calzaghe would never stop a prime Roy Jones, I don't see how that would ever happen... Can't use Johnson as an example, he hits harder than Joe, and Roy was at a point in his carrer where he wasn't throwing any punches. If Joe did drive Roy back to the ropes, a prime Roy would have landed himself and discouraged Joe, I don't think he could pressure a prime Roy enough to stop him without taking on too much damage himself.

Toney is more of a tough counterpuncher; Calzaghe throws punches in bunches and keeps doing it for 12 rounds.

Hopkins had success when he pushed Jones against the ropes in their fight. Calzaghe would've done this, and unloaded flurries of punches when he got Jones there.

As I say, it's 70:30 in RJJ's favour but Calzaghe has a chance

    Prime for prime obviously

Roy admitted to using rip fuel which is still a over the counter supplement today , it was not legal to use, in boxing there a difference , Mosely is believed to have been using a designer roid ..

so lets not blow out the truth to make a point.

Johnson hits harder than Calzaghe but a prime Calzaghe throws more punches and is better overall than Johnson.

Calzaghe was past his physical prime against Kessler and still managed to pull out that brilliant performance. Calzaghe in his physical prime had the speed, workrate and tools to give him a chance against anyone in super middleweight history.

That includes the most talented super middleweight of all time - RJJ.

Prime RJJ was supernatural, but prime Calzaghe would've had a CHANCE of beating him. A chance. Are you saying Calzaghe has absolutely no chance?

yeah **** I forgot Thomas Hearns, I think Hearns could've beaten him too. Roy Jones and Tommy Hearns beat him, Ray Leonard 70/30 and for James Toney and Nigel Benn its 50/50. Lest we forget, as good as Kessler is, were comparing Joe to guys way out of Kessler's league. What would Roy Jones do with a guy like Kessler? If Jones was mentally up for it he'd quite easily win every round or even stop Kessler, not win a tight UD like Joe did. Tommy Hearns would probably have Kessler on his arse in about 5 brutal rounds.

I'm sorry but Joe Calzaghe will always have those question marks next to his name. If he'd have stepped up to light-heavy five or six years ago to fight Jones then we'd have an answer, but we dont, and the truth is in light of that you've always gotta pick Jones. Same goes for Hopkins. Hell I'd have been happy if he'd have fought Ottke, coz I have no doubt he'd have beaten the cheating german *******, but he didn't and thats another question mark in joe's career.

For the record, I think Joe beats B-Hop at light-heavy fairly easily, and I think he probably beats Clinton Woods and Zsolt Erdei but not as easily as people may think. I reckon that he'd beat Kelly Pavlik too, perhaps even Jermain Taylor. What do people reckon his chances are against Chad Dawson?

Jones clearly has more physical talent than Cal, but Joe has a lot more intangibles. Both of these fighters have had long longevity, but Joe has gotten better as his career has progressed. Jones seemed great from day one. This would not be an easy fight for eithere man. If Cal could rough Jones up and keep him from staying in the middle of the ring, he has a chance. If not, Jones would pot shot him to death.

That may all be true but the greatest boxers of ALL TIME (according to ESB threads are Pacquiao and De LaHoya) and most of them would have you believe that both would have been able to knock out Calzaghe or Kessler who would be considered either bums or shot fighters by comparison.
