Joe's always struck me as a moody and contrary sort of figure. God knows what he'll do if he beats Kesler. As for excuses if he loses, he wont need any. Kessler is the best, most dangerous opponent he could possibly take on from 160-175, so no shame in loosing to him, and if he wins then any other match after should not do as much for his legacy as Kesslers scalp will. Dawson, Pavlik/Taylor or at worst Woods would make his most suitable opponents. Bute should be left alone to develop a bit more and not be rushed like Lacy.
I believe it is probably against B Hop but if Pavlik is wanting to come up a weight then why not? It would be the bigger crowd pleaser for sure.
Damn - JC swifts back and forth. "1 fight..", "3 fights...", "Till I am 40..." "Till I am no longer the best...", "12 months...". "Nothing more to prove if I have all 4 belts..." I want the winner to fight Bute asap - so one of the three has all of the belts, its only the right thing to do, and should JC beat Kessler, it wouldnt be proper to just move up, quit, fight Hopkins or whatever, and let the others just claim vacant belts... At least thats my 2 kroner...
I don't beleive he is the most dangerous from 160-175.......... This happens all the time tho, you have to hype up the opponent as much as possible.... like Wlad fans have done to the Ray Austins and Castillos...... You have 2 guys who have fought no names their entire careers and somehow they are the best out there? Hell I would still pick Hopkins over Calzage even at this advanced age, and Im sure he would beat Kessler.....
Well Hopkins has already backed down from a Calzaghe fight so I see it as highly unlikely Hopkins will want to fight Joe now. Taylor also turned down a Calzaghe fight. So who knows? Maybe Pavlik, maybe Woods, maybe Tarver, maybe Kessler rematch if this fight is a good one
What about Woods? He is a bit of a quiet achiever up at 175, he is easily top 5 at lightheavy, probably top 3 even. I would not think Joe would want to go out with a loss, he wouldnt be looking at a fight thats overly risky I reckon.
I didn't say he'd get top billing over Hop. I said he might fight him in the US. As for Roy, FYI he has already offered to fight Joe in Wales for the right money. He even offered to get down to 168. This was about a year ago and one would assume the offer would still stand. RJ is a legend, but currently brings nothing to the table other than his name, whereas JC is an undefeated top 6 pound for pounder.
LHW or MW.... whomever would make the highest offer:good If JC beats Kessler?? There's not much left to prove other than he could have beaten either division Champion:yep Great Champ, great boxer, no matter how it happens.
Chad Dawson would be the toughest task, and the one that would earn the most respect at this point with the true fans of the sport. If he manages to beat Chad (unlikely) and Dawson goes on to build a legacy from there on in, it would be extremely impressive.
If he beats Kess then he has nothing to prove imo. BUT for the sake of the thread I will say that he murders Pavlik and calls it quits. This is, of course, if he gets past Kess though (which I don't see happening)
Beating a world champion at light heavy weight, who is in his prime and coming off a string of impressive victories would get him no credit? Obviously. I should have realised that beating a 42 year old Hopkins fighting up from his natural weight class is far more credible.
Joe said a couple of days ago: 12 months and TWO fights at the most. I think he means...if he is up to it and it's worth it for him, he'll fight twice more...otherwise, just once (if he beats Kessler)
