To be fair though, his opposition probably wasn't as good at it is now...and he's fighting much younger guys.

I always find it hard to put a date on his prime, he's even looked bad against Ornelas recently and then came back with some outstanding performances against Pascal.

I don't find it difficult to decide on Hopkins's prime at all. For me, it's clear cut, 1996/7-2001/2. That's when he turned in the three finest performances of his I've ever seen (G.Johnson in '97, Echols II in '00, Trinidad in '01), and when he "executed" some good opposition in dominant and impressive fashion (the underrated world champion Keith Holmes as well as the aforementioned three).

Compared to those days, B-Hop has retained his skillset but has declined significantly in physical terms, most notably his (a) stamina, (b) power, and (c) reflexes. Peak B-Hop would've stopped guys like Jermain Taylor and Jean Pascal for sure IMO.

I watched this fight live and scored it clear for joe. I have no intention of ever watching it again.

The ts is crazy here. For one I have no idea how you can refer to joe as a world champion at age 25. He was a title holder.

Another, these guys have never been the same age. So they could never fight when both were 25. It'd be joe 25 and nard 31.

These two fought at a great time. By the fight joe was a respected p4p man and was considered the greatest smw ever. Hopkins was in his 2nd wind altho he was a paper champ by then.

In 02 there was no need fighting joe. The fight happened at the right time and the right man won imo.

B-hop was not in tough tough prison and Calzage was not a punk. If you try to mess with a man like he is a punk they usually take you out in a body bag. Only guys that want it become bitches but anybody that can get off on a man is gay whether he is on top or the bottom, are you saying B-Hop likes men

Well to be honest I agree with a lot of what you said. Hopkins was good in the early 90's he just lost to a better fighter. He had his chance at a title. He didnt really face anyone close to Jones Jr again. I think Hopkins is a bit overated and Calzahge is underated, but with Calzahge its all speculation, because the guy f'd up his career by not seeking out the best fights. I think Calzahge could have competed with Toney, Hopkins DM and all the other guys around super middle up to LH, but he chose to bankroll Frank ****** against bums in England. His career was a bit of a waste. Its too hard to assess him against a prime Hopkins because even though I also feel Hopkins resume is a bit shallow, Calzahges is worse.

For sure, getting knocked down then going on to take a controversial SD but being unable to return the KD favour - that's making someone your ***** alright.

Nothing controversial about it, Calzaghe out hit Hopkins in every single round of the fight and won 116-111 and 115-112 on two judges scorecards, with the other judge going 113-114 the other way, Calzaghe won by such a clear margin that with three rounds to go Hopkins literally had to win every single round to win the fight and with two rounds to go Hopkins needed knockdowns, that is how much Calzaghe owned Hopkins.:D
