On another JC interview he says that Americans are ignorant and that European fighters are better. I was respecting JC for his accomplishments but his incessant running of at the mouth is making me lose respect for him. Well Joe, you still had to come to the states to solidify your standing. Hatton came to the states and got knocked out. American Tim Bradley went to the UK and disposed of your Junior Witter. Clinton Woods got schooled by old man Tarver. Hype job Khan got KO by a non-Euro/non-American Hamed came to the states and got schooled fought once more and retired. Whether you like it or not the US is still the Mecca of Boxing.
Calzaghe is a great fighter, but he's pretty thick. Don't spend to much time worrying about what he says.
i say he's wrong....americans are IDIOTS why sugarcoat it? but ****......so are the brits, they're just as bad as each other at gassing up they're fighters this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black......
To anyone with half a brain Calzaghe solidified his standing when he beat Kessler. So he didn't have to come to the US to solidify his standing.
It's not hard to make a case for that if you read Too Pretty's posts here on ESB: no European fighter is anything but a Euro bum. Just imagine how many casual boxing fans like Too Pretty there are in America, if even someone like Bhops says Kessler, for example, is a bum. European casual fans have always considered the Americans the best: SRR, SRL, RJJ, Hagler, Hearns, Tyson, etc. Even when they think one of "their boys" might be better, they don't think "their boys" are better overall, in general. Americans can never accept that a European fighter might be better than the top American in a certain division, though... ...that is ignorant and sad. But, like McGrain and you are saying...Calzaghe should talk less.
America is no longer the mecca of boxing but its still pretty important. Joe is a bit of a twat for saying this. We don't need a british James Toney!
Calzaghe is right to a point as there are lots of ignorant Americans who know **** all about anything unless its associated with their own country & they like to hype up ANYONE that looks halfway decent in boxing just because they cant stand not being the best BUT so do the British, us Brits have ****ed many a sportsman by placing too much early pressure on them just because we feel this idiotic need to be the best at something, anything. There is a lot of good in each (USA & Britain) but the bad smells of **** & should take a good look at themselves, it is embarassing at best.
Exactly! If Jones is indeed to be Calzaghe's last fight, then the biggest disappointment of his career is that Joe never topped the bill in the states long ago & more frquently. Yes, fighting in front of 50, 60,000 people in Cardiff is great, electric atmosphere, but USA is where respect is earned. If you topp the bill in America, then is no higher place in the world when it comes to boxing. Why the fcuk did it take so long for Calzaghe to be top of a fight card in the states anyway? Its a travesty, it really is! Should have happened three years ago or more perhaps!
America IS the Mecca of Boxing. It's definately not the the UK and DEFINATELY NOT Germany. So if the US is not the Mecca of Boxing then where is the Mecca of Boxing. At least when PBF was talking trash (which I am not a big fan of him for running his mouth either) knocked the F out of Ricky Hatton who some felt lost his debut in America. And when Toney was talking trash at 168 he was calling out Eubanks and Benn when they were closer to their primes. As compared to when JC fought Eubanks at the tail end of Eubanks careers. Did we see Joe pushing for the Jones fight at 168 when Roy Jones was on top of his game. NO.
Naturally, there is a lot of controversy in your post, and prepare for long drawn out arguments with no resolution. But you are right about America being the Mecca of boxing, this is truth.
