Calzaghe: "Americans are ignorant"

Was the mecca of boxing, not is. The best the US can do nowadays in 19,000 in some **** arena, title fights getting 9,000 and **** like that.

Come to the UK if you want the real mecca, the real experience of 50k making a real atmosphere, none of this library **** like in the US.

 

Although its a stupid comment from Joe the original post doesn't really show the context. You can't tell the actual intent of the statement if its from a video interview, as it could have been just a passing statement/rebuttal to a typical American anti-calzahge statement or question.

This is the type of statement that a European fighter gets reamed for and an American fighter making a stupid anti european fighter wouldn't even draw a few raised eye brows. You really need disreguard a lot of things fighters say, they aren't politicians, they slip up all the time and speak without thinking.

 

That's kind of the way it's always been. Always fights in 20 thou arenas or in a casino. The mecca of boxing (MSG) doesn't hold more than 23 thousand people if I remember correctly.

Boxing really f*cked up when it strayed away from MSG to go Vegas bound more often. The crowd almost always seem extra ordinarily quiet for those fights.

Anywho who cares what Calzaghe says? Are any of you guys losing sleep over it?

 

Because he had fought so much in states, judges were more used to his style and had more experience judging his fights.

He got booed because he was an *******. And the fans were booing him, not the judges.

 

He was born in London to Jamaican parents and lived in Canada for about 7 years or something, evey pro fight he had a British flag waving, he was never anything to do with the USA so dont try sweep it under the carpet.


I couldnt give a **** about Hopkins V ODLH, if that was the case he shouldnt have fought at all, it was a bull**** desicion, when this happens in Germany Americans are up in arms, when it happens in the US its ok because its ''us''.

 

i'm not american, but if all you brits really think you have the mecca of boxing you're all ****ed. it isn't even close to the U.S.

He lives in a small town in Wales.

Hes shy and dosent like to be bothered.

Hes not materialistic, his house isnt massive, he only has one car even though he has said he could afford 10 and a boat.

Why would he give a **** about what Randy in Ohio thinks of him 3000 odd miles away?

Why would he want to fight infront of 10-20k in the US when he can fight infront of 30-55k in the UK?


Why is he fighting thier now? To get a couple of money fights and retire. The end. Does he care what you think in dixie land? Nope.


No country stands close with the UK for atmosphere at sports events. Period!

Germany really is where boxing is growing the most. Check out the large crowds, ridiculous pagaentry and big fights they put on over there.
