At 26-0 it appeared as though Stipe Drews had earnt his match up against Australian Paul Briggs, a title elimination bout for the WBC light heavyweight championship of the world.

Stipe Drews lasted the 12 rounds but only just. He was decked on three occasions and docked three points during the fight for all types of fouls including headbutts and kneeing in his bid to survive. In short he was outclassed.

Yet six fights later he fought and defeated Silvio Branco in Germany for the WBA light heavyweight world title.

The insanity of the situation was obvious when Drews ventured to Australia for his first title defence against Danny Green in one of the worst exhibitions ever displayed by a world champion.

After Green gave Drews a taste of his power it was all "run rabit run" with Drews refusing to stand and fight. One of many questions asked after the fight was how in the hell had Stipe Drews won the title in the first place.

And how was he 32-1 ?

One only needs to take a close look at the scam running through Europe to reveal the answer.

Sven Ottke copped plenty of flak but many of the guys he fought are the same guys that Joe Calzaghe defeated. Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid, Ricky Thornberry, David Staire, Charles Brewer and Tocker Pudwill fought both guys while many of the other guys that fought Calzaghe had fought one another too.

Silvio Branco, the "champion" twice beaten by the disgraceful Stipe Drews lost his first title fight against Sven Ottke after defeating Glen Johnson and Robin Reid...both victims of Joe Calzaghe.

After nine wins and his first loss to Drews, which was for a European title, Silvio Branco had his seconde title shot against Mehdi Sahnoune which he won. It was Sahnoune's first defence after winning the title at 23-0 against Bruno Girard. Eight fights later Sahnoune got another title shot, this time against Zsolt Erdei....

It just goes on and on, with Joe Calzaghe free to pick and choose from a list B class champions.

Zsolt Erdei got his WBO title shot at 19-0...his nineteen fights against questionable opposition, then had his first title defence against Hugo Garary who had a 20-0 record built up against nobodies. Two fights later he fought him again....

Would knowing that they have the same promoter shed light on the matter?

They fall under the banner of Universum Box who also manage Thomas Ulrich, Mario Veit, Lukas Wilaschek, Alesky Kuziemski, Denis Inkin, Sergiy Dzinziruk, Karoly Balzsay and the great Stipe Drews among others...

a multitude of super middleweight and light heavyweights to cash in on.

The match makers use the beaten fighters as meat for those still undefeated. It's a round robin...a type of pass the parcel where the useless help build up the records of the useful. It's those undefeated fighters that end up taking on the champions like Calzaghe and Ottke in what can only be described as fraudulent formlines.

Their records are all a mirage.

There is some truth to this, but you have to be aware this happens nearly everywhere. Look at nearly ANY boxers resume and they all faced no names and record padders.

How does any boxer get famous? He beats someone who beat someone who beat someone else...famous boxers can all be traced back to no namers and journey men.

And for what its worth, Dews can box, he just punks out when he gets hit hard (lacks confidence). He has to have some skill to be in there for twelve rounds against punchers like Green and Briggs.

from what i understood, you just want to tell all of us here that euro champs like ottke and calzaghe had a padded record and unproven.

or to cut the story short, you want to point out that calzaghe is a fraud..

damn reading threads like these are getting tiresome

Honest mistake. Sometimes when you have so much information and so many facts to back up an arguement you can get ahead of yourself.

Fact is the truth is more damaging to Calzaghe's reputation, producing evidence that European promoters have consorted with Calzaghe at every possible opportunity.

Glen Johnson and Robin Reid fought both Silvio Branco and Sven Ottke...while the 2nd fighter that fought both Silvio Branco and Joe Calzaghe (apart from Robin Reid) it was Richie Woodhall.

With plenty of respect for the ability Woodhall once possessed there's no way in hell he should have been given a shot at Calzaghe title as his form at super middleweight was not up to scratch.

After going 21 fights at middleweight without loss, Richie Woodhall got his first title shot against Keith Holmes which was thoroughly deserved...even though his biggest scalps were Silvio Branco, Derek Wormald and the undefeated Zdravko Kostic, who had never fought a bout schedualed for more than eight rounds.

While it's common knowledge that he went into the fight against Holmes with injury that fact is that HE LOST. Yet after his next fight (his 1st at super middleweight) where he beat Bernice Barber (14-7), good old Franky Warren pulled a rabbit out of his arsehole by gifting Woodhall a bout v WBC super middleweight champion Thulani Malinga.

Malinga was coming to the end of a very long career that begun in his teens as an awesome amateur. His loss to Woodhall would be one of four defeats his last seven bouts and there would have been countless contenders with stronger records than Woodhall that would have ripped the crown from Malinga's head given the chance.

After finally winning a world title Woodhall had his first title defence against Glen Catley who was unlucky not to wake up the next morning as WBC middleweight champion after dominating Woodhall. This coming on a 12 day preparation....

To think that Glen Catley could have been a world champion does nothing but expose the insanity of the situation. One can only imagine the frustration of fighters in other parts of the world that carry true championship credentials, their careers put on hold so that powerful promoters can cash in.

Richie Woodhall finally caught up with Vincenzo Nardiello who must have been giving Don King a little something extra on the side. Of his five world title fights he had only managed one win, that against Thulani Malinga by split decision, only to lose the belt in his first defence to Robin Reid.

In between title fights Nardiello was fighting Italy's best farmers and fishermen...

Next Woodhall faced undefeated youngster Markus Bayer who sent a blunt message to Woodhall..."It's a young man's game."

That would have been a perfect time for Woodhall to retire considering he had achieved every fighters dream of becoming a world champion and many better fighters than he hadn't even been granted a shot at a title. Yet he continued on fighting, outclassing some guy named Errol McDonald..... before Joe Calzaghe decided that in true champion spirit he'd fight Richie Woodhill who had recently proved himself the No.1 contender in the world.

    :verysad

Calzaghe is nothing but a yellow bellied dog that made his mark feeding off garbage scraps.

Was good champion in his day especially as a middleweight but by the time he fought Calzaghe his best days were behind him. A super middleweight bout v Calzaghe, Eubanks two prior fights were at 175lbs while he weighed in at a staggering 186lbs for the bout that followed just six months later.

Oh, it's a Joe Calzaghe troll thread.

It would be a lot easier if you just said so in the OP rather than trying to master facts and forlornly attempting coherent arguments.

That just makes me sit here for two minutes trying to puzzle out how Stipe Drews, Glen Johnson and Julio Cesar Gonzales fit into a conspiracy of European promoters all set up to make Joe Calzaghe look good.

    Haha, that's absolutely laughable.

If you'd seen Ottke v Reid, you would know that it features one of the most scandalous refereeing performences of all time, with the referee stopping the action to warn Reid, seemingly for punching Ottke in the face. Nonetheless, many still felt Reid won.

And to include Lacy and Froch? Reid was shot to bits when he fought Lacy, but still gave him some trouble and beyond shot when he fought Froch.

Are you just trying to make people ridicule you?

Translation: I hate Calzaghe. Wahh, WAAHHHHH!:|

Every single fighter on the planet fights their share of 'bums', EVEN IN AMERICA!! Really! Rumor has it Hopkins, Jones and even Mayweather didn't always take the most competitive match-up available. You judge fighters by how they fare when they do.
