We all know that 'Zaggers is the GOAT at 168. Anyone who doesn't admit this is a troll with a mundane personality and a hideous pair of twig wrist. Being that Joe's success has brought the biggest amount of butthurt in the history of boxing, and the thread's about him turn into strokers just bit*hing for pages on end, so we will ignore him for this thread. So him aside, who is the GOAT at 168?
Fro me it would be - Eubanks with all those title defences. Out of Eubanks 18 WBO SMW title fights 14 of those fights were against fighters who were, had been or became top 10 SMWs. One was a unification and another was against the undefeated former IBF SMW champ (relinquished his title). In fact 6 of the fighters he faced had been or became world champs Holmes, Wharton, Benn, Malinga, Rocchigiani, Close, Watson to name a few After Eubank it would be Ottke It was only Ottkes 13th fight when he won a world title Ottke made 21 title defences and was a winner of 22 world title fights Ottkes reign was impressive when you consider he wasnt a puncher and didnt have an equalizer in his fists. Look at who Ottke beat C Brewer the then IBF SMW champ for the title, beaten twice G Johnson who went on to become the Ring & IBF LHW champ S Branco who went on to become the WBA LHW champ A Mundine who went on to become the 2 time WBA SMW champ B Mitchell the then WBA SMW champ and 2 time WBA champ R Reid the former WBC SMW champ and still world class A Krajnc the former WBO MW champ (a smaller fighter) M L****n world class who went on to become European champ R Markussen world class who went on to become European champ T Tate beaten twice D Starie J Butler So after Calzaghe for me its Eubank and then Ottke. After that it can be debateable, but I think Collins would be somewhere there, even though he only had around 7 SMW world title fights, but held 2 wins over Eubank, 2 over Benn and a win over Sellier
True. It's no worse than having to go to Jones/ Toney/ Ward's back garden and having to beat them with a box full of PEDs. :deal
Based on what? Accomplishments, or head to head? Roy Jones was the greatest fighter who ever fought at 168 pounds.
Apart from Joe Calzaghe, I think the GOAT at 168 is Joe Calzaghe. That is, Calzaghe's greatness transcends even the limits of logic and semantics.
Again, I think you rate Collins too high. You've said yourself that you think Eubank nicked the first fight. Then they had a rematch. Again, he only fought Benn twice, due to the injury that Benn sustained in their first fight, and Benn was past his best. So they look great on paper, but they're not great in reality. No disrespect intended, but other than Eubank and a faded Benn, who did he beat? The likes of Roy Jones and Andre Ward should be rated higher than Collins.
Are you serious?? If so, you should be put in a mental institution. Half of the "wins" you mention from Ottke's resume aren't wins at all. Robin Reid schooled Ottke. How can you come here with a straight face and list that as an accomplishment for Ottke?
