So why didn't he try to fight at LHW then?

 

What are we voting on here? Roy Jones had 7 fights at SMW. Sure he would of been tough to beat H2H but he certainly doesn't have the 2nd greatest resume at the weight.

 

If Joe was looking to fight outside of his weight class, why not LHW?

Hopkins hadn't had more fights above MW.

I thought it was odd at the time, because I don't think Joe would have gotten much credit for beating Hopkins back then. Hopkins' biggest win at the time was against Tito, and many people, including yourself, don't rate that win highly, because he'd moved up from WW.

And apart from a handful of fights, the fights that Hopkins had above MW, were just keep busy fights a few pounds over the limit, against opponents who weighed about the same. It's not as though he'd been fighting established SMW's. So again, I don't think Joe would have gotten much credit for a win at the time.

Andre Ward is better than Calzaghe ever was. I am British myself but I can quite easily see that Ward would have beaten Joe rather convincingly.

 

It was the period he'd just fought Sakio and was set to then fight Manfredo for pennies.
They made a bull**** offer, without a value on it. They then got a guaranteed counter offer, the highest of his career at the point, They shut their mouths.
He fought dog **** for pennies, and turned down a massive mutli-million pay day for a fight you believe was a level below , The fact is he was fighting light middleweights like ashira, manfredo - and a middleweight in bika whom had 1 fight , a nc cut job at 168. So he was happy to fight them but the reason for not fighting his own countryman, an unbeaten puncher at his own weight and a fight of significant interest to the masses... was that "oh he was a different era"
