Roy Jones Jr. is an natural middleweight right? I started watching boxing since ´09 so I'm not so educated on how good Roy Jones Jr.'s resume is on SMW. Or how it is compared to Calzaghe? But does Calzaghe's W mean a lot over Roy Jones Jr. in 2008?

well jones was a boxer from the 90s, so beating him in 2008 is like beating 40something sugar ray leonard when he was about to retire.

however there was no one cowardly enough to pick on 40something sugar ray at that time, so I cant make a comparison. only hector Camacho who was also old too had a grudge exhibition match with him, and he never claimed it as a real win afterwards.

IN fact I cant think of anyone who made a big thing of beating a 40something legend except maybe trevor berbick. Him and joe calzaghe are the only ones who WHOOPED WITH JOY on beating up a 40something and claimed the OP was prime.

Jones only had about 7 fights at Super MIddleweight and only beat one great fighter in Toney. People voting for him because he looked impressive across those few fights but his resume doesn't even approach 'Zaggers.

The Jones v Calzaghe fight took place at 175. Jones fanboys will have you believe it was meaningless because Jones was past his best, but they will fail to point out so was Calzaghe. Jones was also still a top 10 rated contender and 'Zaggers kicked his butt with ease.

A bit controversial, since most rate Ward ahead of Froch, but still intersting :think

huh? so are you claiming that jones calzaghe was simply an exhibition-type fight too like Camacho-leonard? you seem to be.

Not important to me what you think on that, since I was in a unrelated way to your post, just saying I cant find anyone who was cowardly enough to claim a victory over a 40something leonard was a great thing.

And I cant find a case of someone whooping with joy over beating an aged shot2shyte legend except for berbick and calzaghe,.

Whats your problem with this? Can you find a case of someone whooping with joy on beating a 40siomething legend? please your input is appreciated, but don't make up unrelated rubbish.

    bailey,

Quite right. I worded it wrong. I meant if he wanted to fight guys who weren't already at his weight, why didn't he opt to go up to LHW?

That's right, but they were just a few pounds over for the most part.

I said to you last year that I'd been a member for over two years, and I'd never come across a thread discussing Keith Holmes, which I found odd. Unless I've just missed them. Keith Holmes was a good fighter. I can remember watching him live on Sky against McCracken.

Yes, I just have a feeling that he may have found himself in a no win situation back in 2002.

I think Roy saw himself as a natural SMW. When Joe slapped the **** out of him in 2008, Roy probably couldn't win at the highest level any longer. Joe was the first world level fighter he stepped into the ring with since Antonio Tarver and Glenn Johnson knocked him out in brutal fashion a few years earlier.

Roy had picked up a few wins against average opposition in between, though, so he should have been able to put up a fight at least. This, and the way Joe completly dominated him, makes me think it was a legit win but it didn't do much for Joes legacy.

    FROCH VS WARD
    Bute KO > Froch MD
    Kessler UD = Kessler UD.
    Pascal UD > Dawson KO
    Abraham UD = Abraham UD
    Groves KO > Bika UD
    Taylor KO > Green UD
    Groves KO > Miranda UD
    Magee KO > Rodriguez UD
    Johnson MD > Boone UD
    Reid KO > Pudwill

Conclusion: Froch resume > Ward resume.

It can also be argued Froch beat Kessler and Abraham in a better fashion than Ward did.
