up in that fight. Hopkins landed the cleaner shots but Calzaghe landed far more. Hopkins landed 11 jabs those whole fight according to CompuBox. Many rounds after the third Calzaghe was outlanding him 2-1. You'd be generous to give Hopkins 5 rounds. I only gave him 4. I will say that Calzaghe wouldn't have beat Hopkins 3 years earlier fighting that way but Hopkins didn't take the fight, got paid less money to fight him this year, and got beat. We will never know but one thing I do know. Hopkins got beat in that fight.

dont put too much stake in compubox they dont tell the story of the fight.

P.S everyone knows you rarely set up your attacks with your jab against southpaws bernard always uses the right hand as the set up shot

The fight was won more so on the fact that Hopkins did nothing for 8 rounds and allowed Calzaghe to beat him solely on that fact.

You don't win a fight, fighting in spots. Hopkins thought he could keep things close and out-extend past Calzaghe down the stretch like he's done in a tonne of other fights, just when it came to the time to do it, he found Calzaghe had stepped into another gear and it was too late.

In order to give that fight to Calzahge, you have to give him credit for completely ineffective aggression.
Since, scoring is supposed to be based primarily on clean effective punching, I can't see how Calzaghe was given much credit at all.

    IMO, Hopkins won that fight.

Altough in a Calzaghe fight(and in general) compubox don't mean most of nothing,I agree that Calzaghe won the fight close but clear.

It was close, but definitely an edge to Calzaghe.

Hopkins bored the hell out of me by not wanting to exchange AT ALL.

Calzaghe won the fight - if it was AMATUER scoring. More pitty pats with the contact part of the glove = amatuer victory.

Clearly Calzaghe. I dont even think it could be described as close. Not a total whitewash, but undoubtedly JC.

I thought calzaghe won but it is hard to argue a sd. Since Hopkins scored harder punches and got a knockdown.

Ineffective but constant aggression beats very little and sporadic aggression 100% of the time. That's why Calzaghe won.

I just can't see Calzaghe winning the fight. Yes he did throw many punches but lots of them were illegal shots/didn't land/had no power on them. He looked like he was doing doggy paddle at some points for ****'s sake. Hopkins landed the clean hard shots and also made Joe miss most of his.
