He stated recently that Hopkins is an idiot and racist. But most importantly, he added that therefore he won't give Bernard a rematch. Hopkins gave him a fight when he did not have to. Calzaghe needed Hopkins to become a superstar and now he won't return the favour. So, far for Calzaghe's sportmanship. Everybody knows Hopkins was just doing his usual crazy talk to promote the fight. Nobody takes that serious anyway and I serously doubt Calzaghe did. He did not master Hopkins style and now he is probably kind of afraid that Hopkins will make the proper adjustments (like he always does) and win the fight. That is what this is all about. Calzaghe is talking too much these days and he sounding pretty arrogant. He is a HOF fighter to me and I was rooting for him in some fights a few years back. Now, on top of the mountain, he suddenly changed his attitude. He was happy when Hopkins gave him the fight and should not forget that X is still the bigger name.
white boy is the n-word for white people... everyone knows that, and hopkins went out of his way to say white boy as many times as he could.... if calzaghe said id never get beat by a n***** the world would have came down on him and he would have probably even been forced to quit boxing and would have had a horrible reputation, but hopkins says the same thing and it is pushed a side as a dumb comment to "promote" a fight.... let pavlik say that and see what riots it causes.. and dawson isnt begging to fight hopkins, because he knows 70,000 will watch the fight in england live opposed to 10,000 in vegas if he fought hopkins... hopkins faked low blows, held to much, and called him a white boy.. GOD WHAT ELSE DOES HE HAVE TO DO FOR CALZAGHE NOT TO LIKE HIM
hopkins wowed to knock him out thats why calzaghe took the challenge and if calzaghe wouldn't take the fight u guys would of said he is afraid he came landed the most shot's on the so called defensive master had him almost quitting hopkins tryd to fake twice he tryd to get a point deducted and everything it is sad to see that u boxingfans fail to accept that hopkins had nothing left in the ninth round runnin out of gas ,on the top of that he got a split decision because he is a golden boy fighter just like oscar did against floyd so the old man still would look good when he actually didn't one judge had it 116 111 115 112 and byrd who is black and choosed taylor over b hop so go and take those fact's he couldn't beat joe on his worst day b hop fought slightly better then bika but the same ugly strategy u come to fight joe u get busted up ask kessler lacy and roy!!!!!b hop don't deserve a rematch he is a sore looser!!!!!!!!
Hopkins had his chance and the judges say he lost and that's what history will show. Anyway, Hopkins was gasping for air and looking for rest periods in the later rounds by faking low blows. In a way he was both beaten and humiliated in that fight. When he could no longer stand Joe's superhuman pace he should have covered up like Roy did and take his beating like a man. When rested he could have tried to counter with hard shots and hoped for the perfect shot. He would have lost by a much wider margin but would have acquitted himself like a warrior. Joe owes Hopkins nothing and Joe probably feels Hopkins is a racist because he made racial comments. Duh!!!
Nobody takes that pre-fight talk serious anymore. Toney, Hopkins,Tyson ... they all talk this kind of **** to promote the fight or make the opponent lose his cool in the ring. The point is, Hopkins did make Calzaghe a superstar and now Calzaghe won't fight him because it is a risky fight. I am really disappointed because I always thought Calzaghe was a very fair sportsman. I hope he changes he mind. Hopkins did the same thing to Trinidad. It is nothing parsonal and I serously doubt that a fighter with nearly 50 pro fights feels persnally attacked by this nonsense talk.
Sore loser, prefight trash talk...that is not the point here. It happens on every fight. Hopkins gave Calzaghe a fight when he did not have to and now Calzaghe won't return the favour. Hopkins made Calzaghe a Superstar. What about Calzaghe's sportmanship.
bull**** lacy was calzaghe 's comin out party if anything that split decision made joe look like he couldn't beat a old man when in reality this fight was never a split so **** hopkins legacy is everything and joe will be remembered as a great just like lennox lewis ,timing is everything and he got pavlik on a bad day but no excuses in that fight he backed up when he was not talkin so much **** but calzaghe came from behind to beat hopkins easy ,what do u think why pavlik took the b hop fight because calzaghe had him winded plus landed a ton of punches !!!!!!just imagine the ref would gone for the ploy and took a point for those low blows ,landed by a guy who hit's like a sissy ,the proof is right there how can u be hurt so badly pathetic best acting job like judah against cotto !!!!!!!!at least cotto hits like a beast!!!!it's in the history no matter what u guys say lewis and calzaghe's legacy speaks for itself, and surpasses most fighters legacy!!!!!
Hopkins took the fight because he thought he would expose Calzaghe - not out of any generosity. He then proceeded to throw racial slurs, fight dirty, fake low blows and whine like a little ***** with a scraped knee when he lost. Would you bother putting yourself anywhere in the vicinity of someone like that? Let alone do them any favours? Pull your head in mate
u think calzaghe wouldn't gotten roy without b hop? u think he wouldn't gotten pavlik without b hop ?u think he wouldn't gotten chad dawson without b hop ,a unbeaten fighter get's everyone u must be insane to think that!!!!!
just like with the taylor fight's he should of taken care of business!!!he couldn't why is he not givin glen johnson a rematch trust me glen asked many times!!!!!!!
The bottom line is the unbeaten nearly 37 year old Joe beat on two young lions in Lacy and Kessler and then defeated two aging but still very dangerous legends in Hopkins and Jones not to mention ruled the supermiddleweight division for about a decade. He should just retire and enjoy life. He's earned it and respect for his amazing accomplishments will grow over time by any serious future boxing historians and writers.
"White Boy" doesn't carry nearly the same historical significance as the word "******". To put the two on the same level is insulting and pretty ignorant.
I'll give you Hopkins as being dangerous but Jones!?! Not only dangerous but VERY!?! You must be nuts!!! Everyone and their mamas knew Jones was shot. He couldn't take out a blown up welterweight who hadn't fought in almost 3 years, was fighting at 15 lbs. higher than he ever had, and was knocked down twice. Jones was shot and even Joe admitted to it.
