God I wish we could have just WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE rather than W/I - B - ? champion.

Whilst not wishing to deride Jones achievement, beating any guy 30lbs bigger than you is excellent - with Ruiz having competed well (albeit boringly) at heavy since then, stylewise he was by far the easiest of the champs to beat.

WBC Lennox Lewis - well Roy would have no chance, would be kept at a distance and probably put to sleep early.

IBF Chris Byrd - stylewise pretty bad for Roy, his speed would trouble him more than any other heavy, allied to a cagey counterpunching style and reasonable power.

Lewis. I don't know much about the other early british boxers, I guess because they are not worth much to mention. But, Lewis gets my nod. Anybody who avenges his only two losses, is quite impressive to me. Beat all the top heavys during his era, except for Bowe, who chickened out. Calzaghe's resume is too thin to me, personally. Kessler, bika, and lacy are good wins. But the others, who the hell has heard of them before? Hopkins not the same fighter he use to be, even though, he beat Pavlik, who can be argued is one-dimensional. Jones, obviously, is past it, just like de la hoya, for years now. But, continue to fight for money and the exposure they bring. The real problem with Joe's legacy is that he waited too long to fight the top fighters of his era. I don't think that is soley his fault, though. Personally, I feel Joe has been too protected. He is a superb fighter, though. But, people will always question his desire to take more serious challenges just because he wanted to remain undefeated for his entire career.

The only reason Calzaghe is even in the top ten p4p is because boxing has empties out of real stars for the time been.....When Manny Pacuioau and Marquez are duking it out for number one you have to admit theres serious issues. Joe wouldn't have got a look in ten years ago when you had the real Roy Jones Jnr, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Quartey, Mayweather, Hamed, Whitiker, Barrera, Morales, Lennox, Mayweather, Tszyu, Norris, Winy Wright and Hopkins to name but a few.

There is simply no exceptional performers in boxing right now.

Yep you don't know what you got till its gone. Joe is a good fighter, perhaps a great one but only at a time when the state of the game is at a serious low.

One comparison I haven't come across yet is Jones victory over Mike McCallum. Means **** all doesn't it. Surely, McCallum was far too old for it to count towards any kind of Jones legacy.... The thing is Jones is older then McCallum was at the time of Roys victory.

The only difference was McCallum hadn't been Ko'd by guys who couldn't hold his length for him during a visit to the porcelin.

if you compare calzaghe and lewis records there quite simular. the two big wins over name americans came when they were past there prime (holyfield and tyson, hopkins and jones jnr) and those wins in there first big fight agaisnt a top name were controversial.

they both strugled agaisnt there main domestic rival (bruno and ried)

when coming up against a hyped up star they destroyed them when most predicted a loss (ruddock & lacy)

and the rest of there records are filterd with almost champs.

the things that puts them apart was lewis never beat a great champion to win his first title (eubank) and he got knocked out twice in fight he didnt take seriously to b class opp. this would have been like Calzaghe getting knocked out agaisnt bika and sheika.

Calzaghe is the best european fighter of all time.

:verysad The fact that your fairly new to the game and your saying that says a lot buddy. There is no comparison whatsoever other then they both did a bit of boxing and had four limbs. I could pick apart that comparison like Jones would have picked apart Calzaghe in his prime... but I won't bother- those in the know will know.
