Calzaghe can make it to 49-0 and do it with RESPECT

Winky Wright, who I remember from my youth making his way beating europeans over here, has just been on UK TV offering himself up as Joe's next victim AND doing so in the UK.

This got me thinking - Calzaghe could make it to the historic 49-0, and do so against fighters that will bring him respect from the fight community.

46-0 vs Roy Jones Junior tonight

47-0 vs Winky Wright, UK farewell fight would be in front of a live gate of approx 3.1 million fans (OK, 70k)

48-0 rematch Hopkins. Its strange that in each of his fights post Taylor X has looked good, ONLY against Calzaghe did he look poor. Joe was the reason he looked poor and will win the rematch (note to haters: I fully acknowledge BHop was the reason Joe himself looked less than stellar)

49-0 vs Bad Dawson / Bad Taylor / Froch / AA. A final farewell against one last young lion. One of these guys should be established as the top young guy 160-175 (Kessler aside) by now. Jermain Taylor really has a chance to re-establish himself, Dawson seems to be on the rise, and both Froch and Abraham may rise to the top of their respective divisions.

If he could do all this could ANYONE deny the greatest super middle of them all his place in teh pantheon?

Sounds like a decent farewell strategy to be honest, not sure about the Hopkins rematch. Whilst I agree that Hopkins and Calzaghe only looked bad due to each other, and I enjoyed the tactical affair, I don't think the demand is their for a rematch.

Winky would be a decent fight, only because Calzaghe would batter him. Seriously, Winky did not look that effective at LHW when he fought Hopkins and he could not stop Calzaghe from throwing. PTS win for Calzaghe, especially if the fight is over here; even hitting Winky's big gloves will not stop Calzaghe racking up the points.

Hopefully, by then Arthur Abraham has beaten Pavlik and moved up, beaten Kessler, then can move up and fight Calzaghe. Or, Pavlik beats Abraham and Kessler, or Kessler beats Abraham and they have a rematch? I don't know, there are too many variables, but I still maintain that Calzaghe should finish his career iff against, as you put it, a 'young lion'.

    Dawson???

Calzaghe won't do this, nor does he need to. The man is 36. You can't just go ahead and plan this many more fights, and include Dawson to boot. It isn't realistic, and it also isn't fair to ask him to fight Dawson.

Allow a man to dream! I don't want him to bow out tonight! I'm pretty sure if looks good tonight, he will have 1 or 2 more fights. Especially if he's getting $10m+

Not going to happen, it's either one and only one more fight next or nothing, that's if he wins of course. If he loses a rematch next is almost guaranteed and I won't be surprised to see him go "who gives a ****" mode after the first loss and has more than one fight after it.

He is 36 years old and all of those fights are intense. What else does he have left to prove? He cant just keep fighting and fighting to try to prove to people he is deserving to be ranked as an ATG. He is unbeaten and was the Undisputed 168 Champion. Time is just not on his side unfortunately.

If he looks good winning tonight, he will CERTAINLY fight again. He is suddenly in the big money league, and if sees winnable fights that will double his career earnings for a couple of extra fights, I'm not sure he'll walk away?

Clzaghe said he would stop when he turned 30. He didnt. Since then he has said over and over "just 1-2 more fights"... and yet he keeps fighting. I am SURE he will fight at least 2 years more and probably more.
