Calzaghe cannot retire without fighting Dawson

He would be well worthy of a shot alright, but it's just tough that he ain't gettin it.

 

IMO if dawson was a bigger name, calzaghe would not be retired now...however i still think theres a slight chance this fight could happen.

However its interested listening to peoples views who are desperate for calzaghe to lose, desperate for him to get in with dawson like hes gonna whoop him....but if/when calzaghe wins wed hear about how dawson was already beaten by johnson and he was overated etc etc....

But when the f.. is Joe ever going to retire then, before facing every new upcoming star in the division! after Dawson then Diaconu will be next! acording to many americans Dawson isn`t even a big name yet! the only good win on his record so far is Adamek and Harding imo!

Dawson isn't 45 years old and beyond shot so it makes no sense, sorry.

 

Too much risk and not enough reward (legacy-wise) for either fighter. If Dawson continues to be successful, he'll establish his legacy regardless; and, at this point Calzaghe has nothing to prove. If the fight does happen, I'd take Dawson by decision.

 

If Dawson really wants to make a fight with Calzaghe meaningful, he needs to beat Hopkins first.

 

Neither is Calzaghe, and Dawson at just 26 has a much bigger history of taking on guys significantly older than himself than does Calzaghe, i.e. all of his best wins!

 

Joe does what he does for the sake of Joe, not for the sake of boxing. Dawson = high risk to Joe's unbeaten record (a major part of his legacy, being unbeaten), not great financial reward (Dawson not a big name, not charismatic). Dawson could be out of the loop for a while, injured, pointless Tarver rematch postponed, has to fight leading IBF contenders Woods, Cloud...none of this is going to raise his profile I wouldn't think so anyway. Joe beat two unbeaten champs at super middle, and left boxing by beating 2 older names, so it looks like his work is done.

I think he's having trouble making 175, definitely had troubles the week before the Jones fight. Fought a high pace but took his foot off the gas at the end of that fight. I wonder if he knew then, that that was it. It'd take a lot for Joe to come out of retirement and grind his weight down again. Can't see anything massive on the horizon, myself.

 

Joe doesn't need him. His legacy is secure....even though a win over Dawson would polish his legacy up quite a bit. Thing about it is...>CHAD has a very good chance at beating Joe and why would Joe want to risk his "0" when he's can retire on TOP. Sure there are many question marks about his career and the actual substance that make it up.....but they are question marks going BOTH ways....meaning no one can prove or disprove how GREAT Joe is or is not b/c his best wins were against Older legends in the sport of boxing.......a young gun with a **** load of potential can cause his legacy to come crumbling down and right now Joe is sitting pretty with a very decent legacy. There's really no reason to take that kind of Risk in Joe's position.

 

i think Calzaghe-Pacman would be much more interesting

 

Johnson hits harder than Joe and even though Johnson did very well...Chad edged him by his early lead. Not to mention that was Chad's first true TEST in his young career....I think Chad proved a lot by not going down and by finishing the fight and ultimately it took Chad to a new level as you could see in his fight with Tarver! Chad is a different man and boxer b/c of his incredibly hard fight with Glenn.....those are the kinds of fights that young promising boxers NEED in order to take them to that next level.
