Calzaghe cannot retire without fighting Dawson

Terms of legacy think Calzaghe could fight Johnson or a younger contender but by no means is he obliged to do so, he may retire when he sees fit. I agree that his last two fights were against fighters who were past their prime but the hopkins victory was still a huge scalp

 

It will if he beat Chad Dawson and Chad goes on to have a great career. That's what REAL ATG's do, you see? They dont beat ATG's past their prime just to have their names on their resume. Thats a fraud as far as I'm concerned. Joe is simply a fraud.

 

Sorry guys, but Dawson is below Lacy, who is below Pavlik. If Cal fought n schooled Dawson - which he so obviously would - then you'd have absolutely no one.

Dawson is mediocre at best. Keep him away from Kessler and he should be all right

 

What if Chad doesn't go on to have a great career? What if Calzaghe does to him, what he did to Jeff Lacy?

For years Calzaghe's critics wanted him to fight the best American Supermid. He did. He desrtoyed Jeff Lacy.

That wasn't good enough.

Then, his boxing critics wanted him to fight the best Supermid in the world. He did. He took Mikkel Kessler to school.

Still wasn't good enough.

Then, his boxing critics wanted him to beat an American ATG on American soil. He did. He beat both B-hop and Jones in the biggest cities for American boxing.

Now your saying that he needs to beat Chad Dawson to be considered a real ATG? Can you see how ridiculous this is?

 

He can't retire? Yes he can.

He shouldn't, it looks like a true "Cowardzaghe" move, after talking smack while beating up senior citizens, but he will retire.

Jeff Lacy - Hype job. Didn't beat anyone to even deserve a fight with Joe
Kessler - Good win. Can't argue that
BHOP/Jones - I already did this.

Bottom line, here is my argument. Beating a washed up Jones and BHOP(although they are ATG's) dont qualify to be considered an ATG yourself, because they were washed up by that time. If he had came over years ago to challenge and beat them, I'd have tremendous respect for the man. However, what he's done warrants no respect from me.

 

I'm sure this fact keeps him up at night!!

By the way, the washed up B-hop just spanked the 160 lbs Champ last year.

Jeff lacy was a hype job after Calzaghe destroyed him...you would be saying the same thing 5 years from now about Chad Dawson if they were to fight.

For the sake of boxing, I would much rather see Glen Johnson get a fight with Joe Calzaghe. i thought old Glen won the Dawson fight anyway.
