    1. bernard hopkins is not washed up.

    2. you are obviously ignoring or unaware of the talks that took place between teams calzaghe and hopkins in 2002 and how they ended.

i am a huge Cotto and pac fan as well.

So you don't see Joe Cazaghe in the same level as these guys? Why?

Based on performance, how can you not?

he has pound for pound skills and cleaned out the entire 168lb division. Had over 20 title defenses...that alone places him in the same class. Not to mention, he's never lost. 47-0.

How can you be so obtuse?

if calzaghe was willing to fight a corpse in jones jr. why not give dawson a shot.

Calzaghe has retired. Better get used to it people. It's a pity because I've enjoyed watching him beat every fighter who was supposedly going to take his head off!

He deserves his retirement. It's time to move on to a new phase in boxing. Roy Jones should retire too.

    Why?

Calzaghe has pproved himself far more than Dawson.

It's always going to be the same damn thing, Calzaghe would dispuse of Dawson and somebody will come up with another undefeated prospect like Tavoris Cloud, and claim he should fight him.

It would drag on and on and on.

That seems to be the shared sentiment of the day. Unfortunately, we will probably never find out what would have happened if they had fought.

Most people forget that Calzaghe is 37 years old. When you rely on speed and reflexes, in boxing it's like being 47.

He looked considerably older in his last 2 fights...he should stay retired.

dawson has proven himself as a threat to calzaghe. he beat johnson and tarver, two men who destroyed calzaghe's last oppnent in jones. not to mention he beat adamek who is not a top cw. beating dawson cetianly wont hurt calzaghe's resume.

True, Dawson has done well for himself and beating him wouldn't hurt anyone's resume. However, this wasn't TommyV's point. If it wasn't him, it would be the next big thing afterwards. Tavoris Cloud maybe? First Lacy, then Kessler, then Pavlik and after Hopkins knocked that one off the radar it was Dawson. There's always going to be someone who Calzaghe "has to fight before he retires". Bottom lines, the guy has retired and has done so because he doesn't want to fight anymore. People should respect that, whatever their view of him as a fighter.

well, its hard to tell. he looked pretty good vs. jones but that isnt saying much. vs, hopkins, well nobody looks gud fighting hopkins. so there no grat barometer for how much calzaghe has left. the sooner a dawson fight happens the better.

there nothing a man can do about that. of course there always be an up and coming fighter who people will sayyou have to fight" but all you can do is fight as much viable opponents as you can beforeretiting. calaghe is 37, he not expected to fight till hes 40. so, with that short time left, why not fight dawson and call it quits if nobody else looks like a challenge. fact is, calzaghe dosent have the best resume so adding one more name who only help him in the long run.
