500k per defence? really? I am doing pure guesswork here but i am right in thinking his biggest purse was Jones as he promoted himself and i rememebr 2-3 million? mentioned i would be intrested to know how much of a cut Warren takes of a purse and what does he take the cut as? Promoter fee manager fee?

He'll have less than 50% of what he had prior to his divorce. Even the big fights after that like Hopkins and Jones, he wont have made as much as you might first think. He'll have to pay for training expenses and then a lot of tax on his purses. He wont be poor by any stretch of the imgination but he wont have tens of millions either.

Remember he needs to cover expenses for every fight - trainer, sparring partners, manager, promoter - plus pay tax on all his earnings.

Still owed two million by Warren's bankrupted company from the Hopkins fight.

As the "company" is now bankrupt then I don't suppose it owes Calzaghe a penny

I remember from somewhere that it was in the region of 700k for the WBO defence in Germany against Veit, that's why they took the fight. With tax, training, travel fees etc bringing that down. You may make £15m in purses, what you actually get is a lot lot less.

I hope it happens, it would be a nice addition to 2010 for us brits, potentially another international fight, it's just unfortunate that light heavyweight is pretty barren right now.

Having seen the state of Hopkins in his last two fights, I should think it looks tempting.

The way Hopkins behaved in the Jones fight was an embarrassment to boxing, the old mans stamina now seems beyond suspect.
