Calzaghe couldn't have done any better in terms of comp than he did.

A friend of mine asked me to bring up this old, overdone arguement again, but let's discuss it.

What could Joe have done better? Other than fighting for FREE, which no modern fighter in history would have done at the top level. When you can't ink the other euro-trash jokes like Beyer and Ottke, can't even get all the 2nd tier westerners in there with you(albeit got plenty) and certainly can't ink the Western big names, what do you do?

Warren wasn't even very powerful in the late 90's as compared to now.

And how is Bernard Hopkins competition leagues over Joe's at that? I'm sick of the competition being bashed, you can bash anybody's competition if you're looking for holes.

But what more could Joe/Warren have done, other than fighting for free in travel, and in fighting for free in travel, still giving the NAMES less money than they would where he was a draw in the UK.

Joe fights a name for free, they get a marginal amount for the threat, Joe fights them in the UK with a paycut, they get double.

im just going to point one thing out. You are the only one tonight who cares about Calzaghe. If he lets you give him a blowjob will we stop hearing about him at times when nobody cares? there's no need to bring him up a few hours before a big fight when nobody is even arguing with you.

what are the taxes like in the UK? fighters get raped after promoters, training fees, enterauge payments, umbrella holders, screamers (remember Tyson's yeller before fights?) lavish lifestyles etc.

I had no intention of doing it, I was asked to do it. I feel this arguement is dead in the water.

yeah bro. Calzaghe is in good standing after his recent win. I don't think there's much argument about his accomplishments, i just think most non-UK fans would have liked to see more of him on the worldwide stage and in Vegas. I think he's great and could have accomplished a lot more if someone other than Frank Warren promoted him. No beef with Calzaghe, he's my #2 P4P.

Good post. Joe is A+ and p4p #2 which is fantastic considering he fights above 147.

This view we have to get to the bottom off. I know it's a very popular view and it seems to be obviously right! But is it? Would you flesh it out please? With arguments...:good

why talk about calzaghe when so many questions are on everyones mind about tonight. I haven't been so excited for a fight where i have no emotional care for their fighter winning and it's gonna be a scrap, and the winner is a major major player at WW. **** whose got Mosely picked tonight? :D

Not true. Amsterdam I rate Calzaghe highly and you know that I have no time for the idiots not giving him his dues. But he could have done FAR more to face the best.
He did not need to fight for free, he needed to be prepared to fight in the US or to simply say when offered the likes of Pudwill as a defence "No I am dropping the belt, opponents are more important at this stage than titles."

He could demanded that Warren stop feeding him no hopers or else he would leave.

There is no excuse for him never having fought Ottke, Johnson, RJJ, Toney etc in all the time he was champ. He did not even appear to show any shame at fighting the Pudwills of this world and when totally past it ex champs like Brewer were brought over he sold them as world beaters to the average joe fan.

Someone with his ability and who handled early challenges like Eubank so well should have had several more great wins on his resume by now. Imagine that resume had wins over Ottke in Germany (because he would have thrashed him), Johnson and even say Griffin.
