It is easy to forget but at the time Lacy was a wrecking ball

Lacy beat Vanderpool world rated top 10 SMW to become champ in a fight for the vacant IBF belt vacated by Ottke
Lacy beat Sheika who went on to challenge for the WBC title after and who recently gave former WBC LHW champ Diaconu a hard fight
Lacy beat R Williams who was 26-1 at the time
Lacy beat R Reid a dangerous world rated top 10 SMW who looked unlucky against Ottke. Reid had beaten undefeated Magee (who is now WBA INT SMW Champ) who is a Butes challenger who became European champ and after losing to Lacy beat Brinkley who coincidently, was a Bute opponent.
Lacy also beat Pemberton top 10 world rated SMW who was on a winning run of 5 and had twice beaten Sheika in those 5 wins.
After Lacys loss he went on to
Beat Tsypko who had beaten Magee (Butes challenger) by close debateable decision and undefeated Adamu.
Lacy also beat the other top American SMW of his time at the top in Manfredo


Considering leading up to Calzaghe, Lacy had fought 4 solid world class SMWs, 3 in world title fights.

Consider now that Ward beat an unwell Kessler for a good win, better than anything Lacy did, but the rest in Green, Bika and Abraham coming off of 2 clear defeats is arguably less than Lacy having beaten Reid who was unlucky not to have been WBC, WBA & IBF champ, Pemberton, Sheika, Vanderpool. This isnt saying Lacy is better but imagine if Froch destroys Ward and then Ward has a shoulder injury and never looks the same again, would Ward with his feather fists have been much better than Lacy? As said its easy to forget

 

His shoulder turned to **** though, which was part of his demise.
