JOE CALZAGHE has told Carl Froch there is no chance of them ever boxing – even if he decides to shelve his retirement plans.

Calzaghe, 37 in March, is undecided on whether to hang up his gloves after a remarkable 46-fight unbeaten career, including world champion at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight.

The Welshman is not considering another fight at the moment after outpointing American Roy Jones Jnr in New York last month and instead is promoting his new official DVD ‘Joe Calzaghe: My Life Story’.

Nottingham’s newly-crowned WBC super-middleweight champion Froch outpointed Canadian Jean Pascal in a thrilling tear-up on Saturday.

Unbeaten Froch, 31, has been calling on Calzaghe to fight him for years, but the world’s No.1 light-heavyweight insists he is wasting his time.

He said: “It might have been a good fight against Pascal, but performance wise I wasn’t impressed with Froch. The guy he fought wasn’t world class.

“Neither of them had a good defence and Froch was blowing out of his a*** for the last few rounds with his chin in the air. I don’t rate the guy.

“If I do box on, I won’t box Carl Froch. It’s not the point whether I would win comfortably. I’ve never been offered £5m to fight him and he’s just jumping on the bandwagon to get some publicity.

“Froch is limited and I don’t like the guy. He’s slagged me for four or five years, but I would destroy him in four or five rounds. His style is perfect for me because he comes in with his hands down, but I wouldn’t give him a pay-day.

“His missus must be p***ed off because all Froch does is talk about me. He probably calls out my name in the middle of the night and has probably got posters on his wall.

“But he’s dreaming because it won’t happen. He should move on. Mikkel Kessler is a much better boxer. I’ll let him knock him out. Kessler is probably the best super-middleweight out there.

“Froch is not a real champ-ion in my mind. He has to beat a champion first like Kessler. Same with Chad Dawson. I’m not interested.

“I’m not in Ricky Hatton’s position where he’s got great fights out there like Manny Pacquiao. The two biggest fights for me are rematches against Bernard Hopkins and Jones and rematches are for those who lost the first one.

“Do I really want a rematch against guys I’ve already beaten? But at least they are proven, which is more than what Froch is. I’d sooner fight the other two than Froch, who has just beaten a nobody.

“I’m not thinking about boxing right now and not sure what I want to do. I will probably retire, but I’m not sure.”

If Calzaghe does quit next year, he hopes Manchester light-welterweight Ricky Hatton also hangs up his gloves.

Hatton, 29, is hoping to meet Filipino Pacquiao, boxing’s pound-for-pound king, in what would be one of the richest and biggest fights of the year.

The current BBC Sports Personality of the Year said: “Ricky should chuck it in next year. A fight against Pacquiao is massive, but I think he can beat him.”

Calzaghe has beaten Hopkins and Jones Jnr this year Stateside but rates his points win over Jeff Lacy in 2006 and Kessler a year ago as the highlights of his 15-year career.

Sounds to me as if the only potential fight left is Hopkins part 2 which if it's anything like the last one will be pointless unless Hopkins decides to come and fight this time.

I am convinced he'll retire anyway.

I don't blame him for not caring about Froch it would be totally pointless and he would just Lacy him. However he is dreaming if he thinks he stops Froch.

Dawson is a meritable opponent and a very tough fight.

Froch would be a pointless stroll in the park.

Dawson struggled with Glen Johnson's workrate, Calzaghe will easily beat him. He's also chinny.

The problem is, Calzaghe thinks he has a lot left... and he likes the £££... He needs to have a long chat with Lennox Lewis.

I just wish to **** that he would get on and retire. I'm not even overly bothered now that I might never see him KTFO. :bart

It would do British boxing VERY well to see 2 champions go at it in an all British clash. Joe apparently seems quite concerned about boxings lack of star appeal.. then again maybe not.

  14. As mentioned, Joe would absolutely 'Lacy' Froch, but a 4th round stoppage? Give the lad some credit Joe, he's just won the WBC strap against a fellow contender, and his chin looked ****ing cast-iron.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Calzaghe reckoned he'd stop Froch in 3, C'mon Joe the guys chin is immense and you aint knocked anyone out recently.

Think he should just retire now, why drag it out
