Joe Calzaghe was on Jim Rome's radio show today, and basically said Kelly Pavlik is overrated because the U.S. boxing talent pool is so weak that the public in the states thinks Kelly is better than he really is. If I remember right he said "there aren't many boxing stars in the U.S. He said that Pavlik's only legit wins are against JT. The impression I got from the interview is that he thinks Pavlik is a NOBODY. He said he made offers to Kelly in 06 and 07, but Kelly dodged him. He said the Pavlik camp is only opening their mouths because he already has a date with RJJ. He went on to say that the RJJ fight will be his last but if the money was right, to "never say never" against a Pavlik fight. He also mentioned that the reason he took the fight with RJJ was that this was the only fight left that motivated him.

If Pavlik buries Hopkins in five rounds, Joe will fade quickly into retirement to count his money and never say another thing about US boxing or Pavlik.

Joe bitched out against Pavlik. After watching what he did to his gym buddy he ran with his tail between his legs.

I hope Roy has enough left to put an end to this farce.

If Hopkins schools Pavlik over 12 rounds, Joe will gleefully head off into retirement knowing he was THE man and was completely correct about US boxing and Pavlik :D

Joe is saying that Kelly was a worthy opponent back when his best win was Zuniga, but now that he has wins over McKart, Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor he is nobody:patsch

Joe is also forgetting that when he called Pavlik out after KP beat Taylor, he was the one who made a fight with BHop BEFORE any other fights were made.

In addition he also seems to be forgetting that before he fought Hopkins he said Roy Jones "used to be a great fighter, but he's not a great fighter now," and that fighting Roy would be a disappointing way to end his career. In the same interview he said he wanted the winner of Pavlik/Taylor II.

Lockett took the beating, but Joe suffered the brain damage:yep

Very true. I don't disagree with that at all. I just don't see it turning out that way.

Can't take abit if criticism can we?? Pavlik is overrated....and the talent pool is much weaker than it was in the 60/70/80's....come on it's the truth, just look at the amature's???

It's sad to see it though, as would be great if we had more SRL, Hagglers and Hearns coming through. Most choose not to see it an just insult JC. I guess each to their own.
