    no we haven't..

pavlik has earned his stripes fighting top fighters in their prime.

    calzaghe has never done that.

I think the fight was bigger before Joe vacated the 168 belts to be honest.

It's funny people still don't see the way the game is played. A couple questions:

1)Does Joe's recent shitty attitude make you want to see him possibly get knocked out more, or less?

2)Would you spend the extra money either for PPV or tickets for the chance to see it happen?

If you answered yes to either one, he's succeeding in doing exactly what he wants to do- maximize interest for the fight.

Judging by the reaction, Calzaghe's actually doing something most people thought wouldn't happen- getting a genuine rise out of U.S. fight fans where most were indifferent before. Indifference doesn't sell fights- pissing off fans (the right way), oddly enough, does. "Coming out of retirement" does. And the ability to sell genuine animosity between the fighters does. All Joe and Kelly are doing is maximizing the dollar potential of the fight.

Pavlik is just a competive fight (that should be made, nothing more nothing less) - unless he goes on to do great things.

Joe needed a prime RJJ, Hopkins, or Toney on there.

Johnson, Dawson, Pavlik, Tarver, Taylor, Ottke(early unification), even Wright would have all helped solidify things as well.

All fights were possible with the exception of perhaps Toney.

Beating Pavlik, or Dawson, if either or both go on to do great things could add an awful amount to Joes resume. Beating RJJ now means nothing.

An event like that might justify these two matches.

Pavlik is not prime RJJ, he is not Toney, he is not even prime Hopkins. He is just a tasty middle weight offering a fight that should be made.

Calzaghe and Pavlik better worry about those two old guys they have to fight at this point instead of worrying about each other. The chance of an upset in either fight is definately there.

they are not labelled bums because they are european.

they are labelled bums because it's a european tradition to cash in before they ever take on international fighters in their prime.

ricky hatton is the exception to the rule.
