Joe Calzaghe was ducked a lot between 1997-2006, until he got his big break against Lacy. Obviously though, Calzagher must share some of the blame for that, but he was often ducked, by great fighters.

beyer was offered a calzaghe unification fight around june or july 2006 with a purse of 900k on offer.

team sauerland turned it down saying it was not enough and it coincided with the world cup.

beyer then took the kessler fight for i think 1.1 million in denmark in october.

another unification fight that could have taken place was glen catley way back in 1998 i think it was but calzaghe had already ko`d catley in 1 round in an amatuer fight and catley camp were not intrested and calzaghe never pushed it.

surprisng as calzaghe tended to clean up with every one of his domestic challengers.

    eubank/starie/woodhall /with only catley missing.

Thanks. I think after Beyer-Bika Sauerland acknowledged that Beyer's title reign will come to an end very soon and thus he was interested in a unification fight outside of Germany to line his pockets one more time.
