For everyone on ESB worried about the PPV sales and Joe's supposed lack of marketability, you can rest easy now. The undefeated Welsh champion just scored his largest career payday for last weekend's fight.

As I said in another thread, Joe is only now beginning to realize his earning potential. PPV sales are nice, but what matters is the bottom line. And the bottom line for Calz is that he made more money for his masterclass against Roy Jones than he has ever made before for one bout.

When you are able to pull in $10 million for one night of work, that's hard to step away from, even when you're an aging champion. Further, if Joe was able to take in this amount in a half-sold-out Madison Square Garden and with half the expected PPV buys, imagine what he could make at a jam-packed Milenium Stadium and working with Sky Sports PPV, particularly after further raising his profile via the 24/7 series and through his decisive victory over Jones?

It is clear now why everyone from Jermain Taylor to Chad Dawson to Carl Froch to Mikkel Kessler to Bernard Hopkins is calling out Calzaghe. They all want to become the next $10 Million Man, and the best way, they think, to achieve that goal is to make a fight with the 'unmarketable' Joe Calzaghe.

I don't think Joe will be able to walk away from another such payday. For a guy who has fought in a good deal of obscurity for much of his career, the chance to give the home fans a send-off while also collecting another gigantic check is likely to prove irresistible.

That's what I heard as well. Expected: 500K. Actual: 225K or so, from what I heard. I'd have to look it up.

Good payday for Joe, too bad the PPV numbers were crap.

Since the split was 50/50 Jones also walked away with 10 million.

Thanks for pointing that out, I forgot to mention this.

Good for Roy. He fought hard and bravely. I'm glad he got paid well. :good

I also think it will be tough for Roy to walk away from these kinds of paydays. I don't know if he can make the same figure again, but even half of that is a heck of a lot better than most other ways of trying to earn a living.

$50 to watch a ppv fight in america! And I thought sky ripped people off! (ALthough I would pay lol).

I'm not sure what the ticket prices were for the fight but I heard of someone paying $260 for a seat towards the back, so taking that figure and multiplying it byaprrox. 15000 makes nearly $4000000 and I imaginbe some ofthe tickets would've cost a hell of a lot more. The ppv on HBO would have made $12500000 approximately. Setanta had viewing figures at peak of around 500000, I paid £14.99 as a one off subscription fee plus now pay £12.99 a month for setanta, I'm not sure how things would've been worked out between setanta and Calzaghe and Jones, but I imagine a fair few people paid the one off subscription fee just to watch the fight. Plus advertising around the arena.

I'm not an expert on how these things work but there are a few ideas of mine.

I think Jones made 10 mil for the Ruiz fight.

I read on another site that Don King has stiffed Jones on a lot of the money he should have received from the Trinidad fight.

HBO would have agreed the $10m before hand and will have lost out a load of money on this fight. The whole fight probably made $12m tops and they had to pay Joe, Roy and the 24/7 out of it all. There won't be any more paydays like this for Calzaghe
